Surprisingly I haven’t scrolled enough yet today. Weird.

The NK march, by the most positive lens, was a demonstration expanding reach, shifting the Overton window, building confidence for those who are less committed or fluent in the context & issues. More simply, it’s a great on-ramp for normies, and delivers respectability for institutions that need it.

Here’s what I said to our teenager and some other young folks who were around at the match: there’s a difference between a demonstration and a protest, and you need both because people are at different places in their engagement with a movement, and there are different kinds of power.
Can I ask, what did the No Kings protest actually accomplish? I mean, in real terms, what have these protests materially changed? I can't help but feel these one off protests are merely a heatsink for energy and anger rather than a path for meaningful change and disruption of the system.

If you're a writer/other creator in the United States, consider creating an LLC for your business and then signing up for a local area Chamber of Commerce. Many of them have health insurance plans that pool their members and members of other CoCs to create insurance efficiencies relative to ACA.
happily, trump also said he didn't like rudd.

i'm not watching any related video of any of this eeeuw.

Last thought on No Kings coverage:

If major papers wanted a stunning angle, how about the fact that 5-7 *million* Americans mobilized and I didn’t see 1 significant act of violence by protesters

That is a *remarkable* achievement for a contemporary social movement in a highly polarized society

one of my absolute favorite things is when musicians lose their shit at Republicans for appropriating their songs and I am particularly delighted to see Kenny Loggins joining the list
Verrrry Dectective Dan (THE GOOD GUYS) vibes from Bradley Wiggins in THE DIPLOMAT s3ep4. Very amusing, for a drama.

Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

The thing is, until you have personally experienced this kind of targeted operation it sounds like tinfoil hat or the ravings of someone who has lost their grip on reality.

And once it happens, almost no one will believe you if you so choose to confide. You end up alone, frozen
"The aim was to induce personal crises in victims, leaving them too unnerved and psychologically distressed to have the time and energy for anti-government activism"
… with a pic of Trump over-dramatising, yes.

Sleep is a biological necessity, and sleep deprivation has real physical, psychological, and social consequences that need to be taken seriously. The way our society treats it as slothful to sleep according to natural rhythms (including midday naps and variant chronotypes like night owls) is evil.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

“There’s no way I’m bending the knee I have left for a king in America.”

Damn. Just … damn.
Retired Army Sgt. Brian Wofford spoke to me this morning at the Oklahoma City #NoKings protest. Didn’t expect him to be carrying his DD214 so I asked some warmup questions like when he got out and whether his injury was service-related.

He paused while describing the car bomb in Iraq to say this:
Even a (sparkling clean) saucepan would be better than that.
