I told him that I was born in Russia and was a writer. He showed me a list he’d written of his favourite desserts in the city. It was a sober hobby he’d started during the pandemic, going to restaurants by himself, sampling sweets. He made a lot of lists, he said, most of them food-related. I asked what other kinds he made.

“Lists of lies liberal white women tell about Donald Trump,” he replied.

Suddenly, his leg was shaking. He grabbed the edges of the table and raised his voice: “White, liberal women are a plague on our society.”

He proceeded to drink 11 iced coffees.

They've been doing this in Alberta for a couple of years now, and the answer is they don't go anywhere. We're locked in an ever escalating spiral of expense and dehumanization that does nothing but create massive amounts of litter in my neighbourhood & makes the unhoused folks more angry each day.

It’s hard not to feel gratitude for Thomas and his team in this effort. I’m not sure yet where it will take us, but his commitment and his progress is admirable.

I’m doubtful the separatist crowd could organize an effort this big and this successful.

Got off the plane and walked into a drug store in Ottawa and got my COVID vaccine in under 5 minutes. No line up. No appointment. No cost.

Was even asked if I wanted Moderna or Pfizer.

It’s unconscionable that we can’t get this same level of service in Alberta.
