It's political malpractice to keep saying "we all just need to come together" and "elect us because we're the adults and everything will be fine" when we are *so far* past the point of normal that people are going to be pissed once Dems get control and things get *worse*. Which they absolutely will.
They have a media apparatus built over decades that nationalized all politics.

Dems *have* to deal with that.
That second poll looks like shit, so we're doing this based on one?
While he and Klein were at Vox still, they acted as counterbalances to each other.

The fact they've both become less interesting now that they don't have each other to bounce off each other and hike each other accountable is sad.
Like I said elsewhere, I don't think I have ever seen him be truthful before.
I'm not sure I've ever seen him tell the truth.
Authoritarian followers ( a la Bob Altemeyer) who are kept on edge, angry and scared, by RW media.

In a constant heightened state of fight-or-flight, they quickly fall into line and back up those Authorities who need them.

Easier and easier to push to the right because the fear never ends.

Absolutely amazing: they've got so much solar in Australia that they need more people to use more of it, so the gov't has instructed energy retailers to offer *at least three hours of free power* during the middle of the day.

Meanwhile fossil-addled US struggles with an energy-price crisis ...
Energy retailers to be directed to offer free power three hours a day
Saying there is enough solar power for everyone in the daytime, Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen will direct retailers to provide three hours of free power every day to consumers.

America? Nothing. But then the White House Press Pool might have to do real work, not just show up to a daily briefing, get lied to, and then bothsides the results.

if you don't show up to vote, it doesn't matter how many protests you arrange or attend, how loud you yell for a general strike, or anything else you've been doing for the last 10 months.

one vote means more than all of that put together. use your power.

Taxing commercial flight to reflect its true environmental costs presents genuine policy & economic tradeoffs, but taxing private air travel does not, and the latter should be taxed at ludicrously punitive rates to address the deficit created by the former.
Impact of flights on global warming severely underestimated by many carbon calculators & offset schemes that don’t properly account for taxiing, sub-optimal routing or non-CO2 climate effects which are larger component:

Research paper:

Your flight emissions are way higher than carbon calculators suggest
Existing tools that work out the carbon footprint of flights greatly underestimate their warming impact, say the makers of a new calculator

Nah. They'd all move to their second house in the Hamptons and complain about the bad infrastructure in winter.

Pretty good sign this is bullshit is that it would be 6 times higher than the number of people who left New York in the midst of a once-in-a-century pandemic.

At least they told us they were breaking the editorial page before they did it.

“Humans can just go get manual labor jobs if desk jobs are repaired with AI” is both not going to suffice to provide enough jobs and is also going to result in massive societal anger because manual labor jobs often *are terrible*, which is why people have worked hard to avoid them for generations.
Even if society provided the food/shelter level needs for everyone, humans also need to perform useful work just for basic fulfillment. The vast majority of people cannot sit around all day letting AI and robots do everything.

(The definition of “useful work” here is malleable but still essential)

The seldom seen Shaft television series is seldom seen because it sucks. However, the score that Johnny Pate adapted from the Isaac Hayes original is awesome:

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.
Qobuz claims $18.73 per 1000 streams. Tidal is still about $13 per 1000, and when my kid was first using it, it had the single disc version of NIN's The Fragile, which imo shouldn't even exist.
Software can do the "fun" stuff but a robot with an AI in it doesn't scale and costs too much.

(Not that what we currently call AI scales either...)
And the flood of apps would be like the flood of vehicles dep and board games; no way to properly curate any of it.

Get lost in the sea of mediocrity, no matter how good your app is.
That perspective explains a lot about Noem's obsession with plastic surgery.
