We had 3 copies of Brown Sugar in 1 household.
That should be enough to tell you the musical and cultural impact this man's music had on me and so many. He knew how to throwback, yet was also a visionary. He gifted the world with an endless legacy. What an incredible musician. 🙏🏿

Academia was already so white. It is becoming whiter every day. And it’s notable to see white academics coming to the defense of a professor who immediately took to the NYT to proudly proclaim he’d never been a part of an antifascist or antiracist group.

And all the white ppl congratulated him.

You’re seeing, in real time, how liberal historians are whitewashing the (long) history of academics from marginalized backgrounds paying the price first, as well as how (queer, PoC) paid the price on Gaza in the last two years

What an offensive statement from so-called historians. There have been others who have been chased out of the country. Mohamed Abdou was deported for his teaching about Gaza…and he was a prof AT COLUMBIA! But he was queer, Muslim, brown & untenured. Do only white straight tenured profs get sympathy?

What Trump is doing is very bad. But I want to push back against some of the numbers here.

ICE did not hire 10,000 agents. It WANTS to. That it keeps running ads suggests it is struggling. And when it does, it seems to cannibalize local police, who don't like that.

More significantly:

"(Officers) refuse to recognize local or court authority. A judge says you can’t arrest journalists. Watch us. A judge says we have to wear badges. No. State law says we can’t drive around in unmarked vans? Too bad. Elected officials who want to see what is going on should prepare to be arrested."

Then I had to order party stuff and decide on party foods. It took all damn day & night bc my process is so inefficient. Like is this OCD? Why do I have to review every single option before whittling down my cart?

And everything is still mad expensive!

I’m hosting a small gathering at my house on Wednesday, a soft-launch of private practice & new partnership w a ketamine clinic & this storm has really tried to sabotage my plans.

Worse, the most problematic corner/wall of the roof deck started leaking—paint on wall bubbling & my heart sank.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

There are a tremendous number of ICE watchers out in Rogers Park this afternoon after some early morning abductions.

People are guarding churches and patrolling alleyways. Ran into Alderperson Hadden. First timers tell us they're primed and ready to use their whistles.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Without that foundation, regardless of the hundreds of billions we pour into developing superintelligence, we’ll keep erasing knowledge systems that took generations to develop.”
