Parachuters have expressed befuddlement at how harshly DHS is treating Chicago (protesters and otherwise).

We invite you to review the many years of violent, racist propaganda about our city since Obama was elected.

They hate Chicago. That's it. That's why they named their group chat this.

Oak Park resident Scott Sakiyama reports feds pointed weapons at him across from an elementary school today. They then arrested him and took him to Broadview. While in custody, he saw agents texting in a group chat called "Chiraq Team 2."

Gentle reminder that polls don't gauge what is ethical or just. A poll about how "most Americans" feel about trans healthcare is simply a way to understand how effective media and religious campaigns have been in their transphobia.

I dunno, I think it would be helpful if journalists translated what “rural” means in this context. Somehow I don’t think Korean people automatically make something less rural simply by existing somewhere.

Unless rural means something else.

He destroyed the structural integrity of the White House to build a ballroom nobody asked for during a govt shut down using bribe money.
The entire WH complex is 55,000 square - feet.

The ballroom is over 90,000 square feet.

And they are destroying a large part of the WH to build it.

I hate these people.

A trailblazer and champion of the religious Jewish left for decades. A thinker and activist who put his body on the line many, many times for other people and for our non-human relatives and the earth.

This only works if you are able to pay yourself a salary that is within their requirements, FYI.

But they also have great benefits above and beyond health insurance (for instance, you can get hospitalization/illness insurance to cover deductibles and lost time working).

Hey, so another piece of advice for people who are S-Corps: there is a company called Opolis that acts as your employer of record and will provide health insurance and other benefits.
If you're a writer/other creator in the United States, consider creating an LLC for your business and then signing up for a local area Chamber of Commerce. Many of them have health insurance plans that pool their members and members of other CoCs to create insurance efficiencies relative to ACA.

WELL IN FACT if you are a member of @sfwa.bsky.social, they have some health insurance options available, based on the same concept of pooling groups together (in this case other lit-focused orgs). This itself is a compelling reason for qualified writers to join SFWA.

"The evil Jew is funding the entire US left" is a piece of rank, obvious antisemitism that we have just collectively decided to accept in public, because IOKYR.
Ernst: "I think it is extremely important that we look at who is funding these protests. We have to get to the bottom of this. It could be the usual suspect -- George Soros."

In the West Bank the harvest season has become a time of violence and fear. Settlers regularly attack farmers, uproot trees, and burn fields with the backing of the army. This is the reality of the occupation and all of us must fight to end this reality of control over millions of people. (2/2)

Perhaps I'm crazy, but I tend to think that it's a bad thing when the President lies about things we can all see. And it's *not great* that many in the media are so eager to let him play up those lies.
Is it just me, or is the entire tech industry at this point basically just passing the same dollar around faster and faster and counting it as everybody's income?

the instinct to defend it is borne out of the very real fact that it’s been under attack since it passed, having lived experience with what came before it, and having friends and loved ones who will suffer if/when those attacks succeed.
bluesky is an even weirder place than twitter. does my post say we should repeal Obamacare

no

does it say that the institutionalist instinct to devote so much emotion to defense of it rather than sympathizing with what it didnt/still has not fixed (for many) is misplaced?

yes. and i stand by that

I really need Americans to get past this stage of silly exceptionalism where they run around claiming that other countries are incapable of doing evil or awful things unless they're directly copying what some idiot in Idaho wants
The US is blazing a trail for right wing extremists everywhere - openly violate the constitution and see what you can get away with. Chip away at political norms and institutions. Simply ignore constitutional law by shifting the Overton Window and corrupting the party in power and its judiciary.

Speaker of the House holding a formal presser to announce that Jesus is the king of everyone in the USA should be getting more attention
Chip Roy: "The truth is the marxist, radicals, and Islamists the Democratic Party promoted this weekend, they cannot handle the truth. The truth is that there is a king and that king is Jesus. And the president has been willing to say it, & Charlie Kirk was willing to say it & he got killed for it."

Hard to think of another instance where a big media outlet was doing fantasy polling this late in a race. nypost.com/2025/10/20/u...

Not sure "if Trump could have silenced dissent by shutting down rallies, trampling on your freedoms, he would have" is quite the argument that the speaker thinks it is.
Mike Johnson: "The irony was that they called it the No Kings Rally, but if President Trump was a king, the government would be open. If President Trump was a king, he would've closed the nationals parks and the National Mall so they couldn't of had the rally out here."

He said he thinks it has been meaningful for some to encounter a Guard service member who can speak to them in Yupik. "They have a better understanding in their own language"
