Ugh, our similarly-populated English-speaking country friend who is always showing us up by being way cooler.

Imagine being a highly trained doctor and being told off by an ideologue shitbag like Simeon Brown.

Anyways, blocking politics from my mind for a bit...

I managed to call this cheeky fella down from the treetops. He was about 700m away from me (I speak several bird dialects), we chatted for a bit, & he flew down to me. Great company

Haast, Te Tai Poutini West Coast.
The NZ Kea, the world's only mountain parrot sitting in a tree just above my camera & tripod.

What would Simeon Brown know about ethics? He has none

All the healthcare unions also have minimum staffing levels they still provide during strikes so they don't risk patient safety

He's such a cunt #nzpol

Simeon Brown accuses doctors of crossing 'ethical line' with mega strike
There were audible cries of disbelief during the Simeon Brown's speech to a senior doctors' conference.

Well it depends doesn't it- are they just going to bump prices up, or are they going to charge for any type of card transaction? If the former, then it doesn't matter how we pay, it's more pain, but if it's the latter it might well push us back to using cash more often.

Look, to be fair, the actual achievements of his government are also terrible

I didn't last long at the Greens, but while I was there I got to have fun working with. @misswhanau.bsky.social
2015, the Greens announce that if in govt, their cabinet would be at least 50% women. John Key said it was rubbish and he appointed on merit. Next day posts a photo of his inner circle in a lounge. Which was him, Bill English, Murray McCully, Steven Joyce, and Gerry Brownlee. Tory, as digital director puts up a post saying Key's version of merit is... Men. if you photoshopped the men out, she said, you'd have a lounge.

How is Tidal for Western Classical music? I (regrettably) use Spotify for all of my teaching playlists but I'm interested in shifting over if I'll still be able to find the lion's share of the same recordings. Bonus points if you can see the whole f*&#ing track title and the composer name!

It's "difficult to put a finger in exactly why"? The man is a lying stupid charmless piece of shit with no ethics who can't talk sense, why don't people like him, it is a mysteryyyyyy

"much of that appears to be down to Luxon, who has simply struggled to connect with the public in any meaningful way. The numbers on that are pretty clear, even if the reasons for it are contested, up for debate. It's difficult to put a finger on exactly why"

National’s Luxon problem is now impossible to ignore
ANALYSIS: The National Party has a problem. The question is now whether Prime Minister Christopher Luxon can improve, or if the caucus will consider other options.

Time to go back to cash transactions I think...

What it really means is retailers will have to build the fee in to every transaction. That means if you’re paying with eftpos you will end up paying more than if you were charged a fee for using payWave.

Here’s my Jim Bolger was a decent human story. Was at a mock United Nations thing for high schoolers in Wellington in 1991, and Bolger came along to address the gathering towards the end. My school’s group was sitting near him, just about touching distance. As Bolger was shuffling his speaking notes

his sacking of richardson once he realised her devilish plans (by which time it was too late), his later regret, his reverence (grief?) for the lost paradise of the decent society, his religiosity, his dealings with mr peters, his later policies that clark built upon, getting rolled, there’s a lot x

gee whiz mr bolger was a complex character, but you have to admire the unbreakable conviction on the treaty partnership staring down his own cabinet, his party, his social base, and a majority of new zealanders. no way a politician would have the courage to do the same today x
Really, it's the least they could do!

Also, I'm so chuffed to be able to share the cover for Tiny Moments of Joy: Spotted on Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand, which will be coming out in paperback and ebook on the 11th of November this year.

All further details to come soon!

Huge thanks for your lovely encouragement this past year!❤️
You're looking at a damask pink... maybe soft red cover with the words Tiny Moments of Joy written in a serif font in white and orange. Above that are the words: Spotted on Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand in a white sans serif font and the name George Penney is below in the same font. The cover has a border of pale ferns that are mostly white or a paler colour than the cover. You know looking at this cover that you will need a comfy chair, maybe a snoozing lap cat or dog and a sunny or warm spot to read this book. It's that kind of vibe.

A colourfully dressed woman (80s?) helps her friend (80s?) navigate her walking frame through the door.
She says cheerfully: "How about I get you one of those brownies Merle? They're good here. Stick to the fork gooey, you'll love 'em."
Merle agrees that this is, indeed, an excellent plan. (5)

A couple (20s?) are sitting across from each other at an outside table. He's drinking a cappuccino. She's drinking a hot chocolate. Every now and then they stop to pat her big baby bump. Both wearing ugg boots and comfortable clothes. Enjoying this small peaceful moment together. (4)
