About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...
A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy
The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

Come for a renewed appreciation of the songs you half-remember; stay because you learn something truly fascinating about history and how it (eventually) informs popular culture. And how that half-remembered song actually connects to the time it was recorded in.

RNZ almost never publishes "political opinions" but today they & Stuff/The Post published one defending Nicola Willis's handling of the economy.

The author is Dennis Wesselbaum - from lobby group NZ Initiative, where Luxon/Willis reportedly get economic policies from

Is this the dumbest objection to bike lanes ever?
"Cycling may be considered a “greener” option than using public transport, but cycleways use an awfully high amount of petroleum-based products to create and maintain." - Ray Chung @cyclewgtn.bsky.social www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3608...

"Health Minister Simeon Brown called the strikes "deliberate politicking by our unions"

Too
Fucking
Right e hoa

THAT is exactly what unions are there to do, to make damned sure the political class gets its bloody laces tied together instead of kicking the working class

Is he starting to GET it?

Obviously this is compulsory listening, but prior to this episode I just thought of Jimmy Page as 'the guy who steals tunes from black blues artists'. In fact he's 'the guy who steals from blues, management, ex-bandmates, CURRENT bandmates, sound engineers, folkies and his singer'.

Goldsmith is worried about sovereign risk from court recognition of tikanga Māori

But the real sovereign risk comes from a govt that has repeatedly meddled with the independence of courts and legal proceedings for cynical self-serving ideological reasons

Gotta hand it to Winston Peters, dude is almost 80 and the motherfucker can still defy the laws of physics to limbo under the ground-level bar we set for him. Refusing to recognise Palestine isn't COWARDICE, at this point it's treason to the New Zealand people in favour of the US state Department.

Roy Morgan Poll August #NZPol

Labour: 34% ⬆️3%
National: 29% ⬇️2%
ACT: 10.5% ↔️
NZ First: 7% ⬇️2.5%
Greens: 13.5% ⬆️2%
Te Pāti Māori: 2.5% ⬇️1%

Left bloc 50% vs Right bloc 46.5%

Right Direction 31 ⬇️ 6
Wrong Direction 57.5 ⬆️ 4

CoC are toast
Overall Shift: The National/ACT/NZ First bloc saw a decrease in support from 52.8% in the 2023 election to 46.5% in August 2025, while the Labour/Greens/Māori Party bloc increased from 41.6% to 50%.
Gender and Age Differences:
Women: The Labour/Greens/Māori Party bloc shows significantly higher support among women, especially those aged 18-49 (76.5%).
Men: The National/ACT/NZ First bloc maintains stronger support among men, particularly those aged 50+ (66.5%).
Party-Specific Trends: Labour and Greens gained support, especially among younger women, while National and ACT saw declines, though ACT's support among men aged 18-49 increased. “Support for Labour increased 3% points to 34% – the highest level of support for the party since August 2022 – when former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern still led the party. Support for the Greens was up 2% points to 13.5% and the Maori Party dropped 1% point to 2.5%.

“There is now a clear age split emerging with the Labour-led Opposition now favoured by both younger women and men – for a second straight month. Support for the Opposition among younger women aged 18-49 is at 76.5% (up 13% points on a month ago) while a slim majority of younger men aged 18-49 (51%, up 0.5% points) also support the opposition.
