About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

This shouldn’t be stunningly uncommon but please think deep about the last time you saw ANYBODY left of center defend a Black woman publicly

Without a purity test or qualification

Or erasing the reality of what she’s been through before

We could be treating Canada Post as not just an essential delivery service, but an essential social infrastructure in our communities.

Instead the government prefers to treat it as a costly burden that must be subject to death by a thousand cuts.
For isolated seniors, Canada Post delivers more than mail | CBC News
As the Canada Post strike hits the one-week mark, there are growing concerns for one group of Canadians who typically rely on the delivery service more than most — seniors.

Can't wait for the UK to invent the charge "impersonating a heterosexual/homosexual" to criminalize cis straight & gay people being happily in relationships with trans people. Bisexuality, of course, will be illegal outright under new sumptuary laws for being extravagant under austerity conditions

The great derangement syndrome. As the world blows past the 1.5 degree red line Trump and Carney talk about reviving Keystone XL.
It won't lower tariffs on wood, furniture, steel, auto.
But it will be a massive carbon bomb to a struggling planet.
My latest.

UK Gouvernment: Payment Processors Can Ban NSFW Content
According to the UK treasury, payment processors are in the right and the gouvernment has no plans to step in. This puts it in direct contrast to what artists and the UK games industry have asked for.

The purpose of a system is what it does. There is no mistake here. The brutality is intentional and the horror of the carcereal system lives in our hearts as a threat.

Make no mistake, when the state imprisons a trans woman in a men's prison, it intentionally procures her for the purpose of having her raped. The statistics are extremely clear-cut and consistent in every jurisdiction where they have been collected. There is no way around them

This kinda describes me to a T, there's so many times I've gotten into something, wanted to make it work SO bad, but that gnawing fear that if something goes wrong, it's not just the project that failed, I failed as a person

It's hard untangling that, but I'm trying ❤️

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

pro tip: nearly every confidence scam people can carry out in broad daylight relies on a sense of moral injury about being incorrect, being seen to have made a mistake, etc. there's one that works on anyone, but the saying "you can't con an honest man" is true if you consider self-criticism honesty

There were like 5 years when it seemed having Good Takes was going to transform society. turns out the democrats love to govern through nihilism just as much as republicans. Like people cannot reexamine their understanding of the Obama years for its complicity eroding reality and suppressing dissent

I'm being mean by comparing them to QAnon. Because Q is the 17th number in the alphabet, QAnon people will bake anything related to the number 17 (e.g. 17 words in a sentence in a Trump speech) as a confirmation of their beliefs. QAnon holdouts are in a similarly dire state with the Epstein stuff
sailorportia.bsky.social
It's pretty amazing that there are still Gaylors who can keep up the sneering condescension over people not believing that TSwift is a secret lesbian. Like, damn. How do you feel about the number 17, btw?
