Respecting personal beliefs is fine. Something that directly informs the health and wellbeing of the public is not a "personal" belief, however.

The failure to discern the difference between the two is often lethal. Others don't have a right to believe i should die.

i think respecting personal beliefs is important but we really messed up as a society when we let things like "i dont believe in vaccinations" et al through

For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.

I am being asked to tell my department which pieces of lab equipment should be supported with backup power because they expect rolling blackouts and brownouts in 2026 due to increased energy demands from AI. In case you're wondering how my day is going.

"(Officers) refuse to recognize local or court authority. A judge says you can’t arrest journalists. Watch us. A judge says we have to wear badges. No. State law says we can’t drive around in unmarked vans? Too bad. Elected officials who want to see what is going on should prepare to be arrested."

i’ve said it a million times: if your LGBTQ inclusivity doesn’t consider the added struggles that come with the intersectionality of the black trans experience, it’s not actual inclusivity. ESPECIALLY right now.

“In this environment that we’re in right now, it feels like an understatement to say that there’s misinformation being spread about this community. People really forget that we’re human beings.”

While Israelis are celebrating wildly the release of their hostages, Palestinian families are terrorised that, if they dare celebrate the release of their own, hell will be visited upon them. This is not Peace breaking out. This is Apartheid at its worst! www.theguardian.com/world/2025/o...

lot of young people similarly think that like in old shows we just memorized directions to drive places before gps, not realizing as with phone numbers the way we all did it at that time was completely randomly until it worked. this is one of the factors when we refer to how time used to move slower

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Indeed. The issue is not "Jews are white and Palestinians are brown" the issue is the state of Israel, defined constitutionally as a Jewish state in its political, legal, and social character is as a result explicitly exclusionary and creates 2nd and 3rd tiers of life. It is racial, just arbitrary.

What it means is quite literally that you can, in fact, find people of physical traits you wouldn't expect in almost every ethnic group in the world. There are Saudis who are natural blondes and Finns whose grandparents were all born there who are remarkably swarthy. It just happens.

That’s the extent of all conservative identity politics. They think it’s all about a shallow adherence to race/sex/gender as though that shields anyone from criticism or being a piece of shit. Then transpose their beliefs onto everyone else and act confused when nobody else goes along with it.

Sally’s concept of feminism is so shallow and pathetic that she’d cheer the ascendence of a Ada Hitler as somehow good for society.

i think we should rotate literally everything & anyone who's had power for my whole lifetime should be cycled out & forced to live penniless in their cars while normal folks who react to "we want you to pay us to beam concentrated sunlight into your home " get to make decisions for a generation.
mr burns and smithers stand across a scale model of springfield on the floor. from a large mounatin, a metal swing arm with a parabolic dish extends, the dish flat over the city, blotting out the sun. it casts the city in shadows.

burns explains, "since the beginning of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun." lisa simpson points at mr burns in a dank and toxic warehouse. she is aghast. mr burns stands placidly, in a white short sleeved shirt. he smiles. but lisa says, "you're still evil, and when you're trying to be good, you're even more evil!"
