You're absolutely right — starting a land war in Asia wasn't just a bad call, it's 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. Thank you for calling me out on that — really. I'll be extra-strategic from now on.

Would you like me to get cracking on those 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿?
dawg we are gonna lose a war because ChatGPT has this guy mobilizing divisions that don't exist and tasking real troops with holding mountain passes and ports an LLM hallucinated

I'm not sure you can get more marie antoinette than taking away food stamps before thanksgiving while you build a gold and marble dance hall so the other crooks can bring bribe you over a badly-cooked (argentinian) steak

Drives me nuts that things like bike lanes get painted as luxury goods or harbingers of gentrification when making it easy and convenient to get around your city by bike could save low-income households thousands of dollars a year.
One of the less discussed harms of car-centric planning is that it imposes a serious financial burden on working families. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/20/b...

I always wondered why France had so many heists but if you can still just put a ladder up to a window on the Louvre in the year 2025 and get away with a big bag full of priceless jewels I guess that solves the mystery

what trump brought to the republican party, more than maybe any other thing, was contempt for virtue, and he’s demanded that republicans abandon any virtue they might have once had.
It is not so long ago that disability policy was bipartisan. I taught at the Bush School, and George H.W. Bush would talk about his pride in signing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Every once in a while during the 2024 campaign, I'd meet parents of disabled kids who were part of Moms for Liberty or people who taught autistic kids. @slooterman.bsky.social writes how they are afraid right now as Trump targets special education staff.

i suspect it's doubly frustrating for them because what winning did grant them was the responsibility to govern. but they don't believe in governance. there's a reason mike johnson has no opinion on hundreds of us citizens being unlawfully detained but has lots of opinions about super bowl halftime

Pritzker: "Stephen Miller is clearly ordering people to break the law. So he should know that yeah, it may be three years from now that he is held accountable, but I think it's important for them to know that whatever they do now, it's not like we're going to forget."

if there's an overarching theme of the last decade, (with obvious antecedents in 2009, 2000, 1994, and earlier) it's that one political faction believes governance to be a tool of warfare against their domestic enemies, and the other is surprised they keep getting attacked seemingly out of nowhere.

It's going up to $40 billion.

USAID's budget last year was $28 billion.

Again, it is a full-blown federal felony crime for anyone in the White House or Executive Office of the President to order tax investigations into anyone.

And it's not just a crime to DO it, it's even a federal crime for an employee not to REPORT such an order to the Treasury Inspector General.

Do we have an influx of folks fleeing the other place to Bluesky today??

We have an eclectic Starter Pack of Sports and fun accounts to fill out your skyline.

It is not comprehensive but it’s some of the folks who are behind the Committee account and other like minded folks!

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.
A two-minute clip that includes the wallet inspector and “Hello, that sounds like a pig fainting!” and my favorite joke is still the reveal that Richard Nixon is friends with a live pig mascot.

If a character hasn’t appeared for 30 pages, there should be a footnote reminding everyone who they are so I don’t have to flip back and try to figure it out.

I’m dumb and that would be helpful.

We should have ended it all when he started openly monetizing the presidency at his DC hotel & sending his kids to represent the 🇺🇸 government at official international events. But he is One Special Boy and we appear to no longer be a serious country interested in the rule of law or the Constitution.
Trump's conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is caught on a hot mic. Hard to tell exactly what they are talking about, but Subianto asks Trump about meeting Eric Trump and Don Jr, who supposedly have nothing to do with government while they run the family business.

Between this, the resegregation of the military, and the retooling of the Department of Justice to focus on (fake) discrimination against white Christians, and eviscerating Civil Rights Act enforcement, they have nearly erased the structural legacy of the Civil Rights Movement.
Wednesday is gonna be a rough day:

The Supreme Court will be hearing oral argument in a pair of cases that threaten what little remains of the federal government’s ability to protect voters from racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act
