Tonight, in Chicago, North Side rapid responders and community members held a vigil. At least ten people were abducted by ICE in Rogers Park alone today. We uplifted the message RESIST ICE in lights. We spoke out, sang together, grieved, and reaffirmed our commitment to defending our neighbors.

I'm writing a piece on extremism and the military and I have never run into so many people wanting to be off the record before. This plus thr fact that so many of us have been pushed to the margins is bad bad bad.
Every single journalist with expertise in extremism I know has been fired or their publication has folded.

Not a coincidence, of course. Grateful for their work, but unfortunately for almost all of us, this work will now have to be the side hustle.

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

People fucking hate this guy. They fucking hate ICE. They fucking hate how much power he has. He is at 63% overall disapproval to 37% approval. That's lower than their poll after January 6th. And this poll was done before he started intentionally starving people. I wish our media would reflect this.

things that WaPo thinks will “destroy [America’s] economic system”:
• free buses
• freezing the rent for rent-stabilized apartments
• city-run grocery stores
Are we meant to believe the world’s largest economy is this fragile?

People really haven't realized that we're in the "post-USSR collapse" stage yet. Go look up what the '90s did to the average Russian lifespan.
I was losing SNAP anyway because of the work requirements, and the incredibly short-notice cancellation of the extensions. I used the remainder of my account to stockpile frozen and shelf-stable foods. A close friend who still qualifies did the same, because nobody expects to get any refills again.

genuinely think the first point in any convo about ADHD meds should be that 1) ADHD is linked to increased rates of brain degeneration, and developing dementia / Alzheimers & 2) taking ADHD meds slows that rate of degeneration to the same speed as peers without ADHD

Still haven’t seen a video of neighbors cheering an abduction, still haven’t seen reports of a neighbor pointing out a hiding migrant to ICE/Border Patrol

The only people praising the ICE/Border Patrol terror patrols & kidnappings are people who live nowhere near where they’re happening.

Around Chicago ICE/Border Patrol are mostly just driving around looking for landscaping crews. It’s not targeted by threat or criminal background. It’s just Kavanaugh sweeps of brown men in work clothes operating landscaping equipment to hit quotas. They’re not investigating, they’re hunting

In the 80s, we would actually pass laws to ban dangerous things when like 5 kids died.

Now it would take… I mean I just don’t think it would happen. They’re letting AI run wild. Every ad online is for something fake, advertised by a fake company created by bots.

There’s nobody on it
The “value of human life” has been devalued so many times in my life.

Used to make movies about dozens of highly trained dudes dying to save an “innocent life,” that made millions of dollars and won Oscars. Moral unanimity.

Now it’s “not cost effective” to offer life-saving care.

This ends badly
I think it helps to think of Fascism as the only possible endpoint for capitalism that’s allowed to regulate itself. All the incentives lead to systematic brutality.

This is literally the inverse of what happened, Cuomo was the one who constantly played up the issue under the erroneous assumption that being pro Palestine was a campaign killer for the Democratic electorate.

Why does Cuomo want to peddle this narrative anyway? It makes being pro Pal look better.

The Dems have won the popular vote in presidential elections six times since 1992 by roughly 5.5%(1992), 8.5%,(1996) .5%(2000), 7.3%(2008), 4%(2012), 2%(2016),and 4.5%(2020).
In that period the GOP presidential candidate has won the popular vote twice: 2.5%(2004) and 1.5%(2024).
Douthat writes that 2024, when Harris lost by 1.5% of the popular vote, was "an ideological referendum and progressivism lost." I wonder why he didn't view the 2020 election, when Trump lost by 4.5% of the popular vote, as a far more significant loss for conservatism.

Comparing the relation between the presidential election results in 2020 and 2024 with the post-election commentary is a fascinating exercise.

2020
Biden 81,283,501 popular votes, 51.3%
Trump 74,223,975 popular votes 46.8%

2024
Trump 77,302,580 49.8%
Harris 75,017,613. 48.3%
