Not so fun to live in a world without an agreed upon baseline reality is it, Hermetics
supremerobo.bsky.social
Unfortunately we don't have an equivalent to that because many Unions hate the Dems more than they hate Republicans. Maybe Indivisible can step in there
supremerobo.bsky.social
We have a small dollar army that probably could be strategically activated to keep this kind of funding going without causing text spam burnout if there was some coordination
supremerobo.bsky.social
There was that whole program to fund liberal tiktokers that people on here got mad at. That's a decent model from what I read of the actual program
supremerobo.bsky.social
I think it is at a smaller scale. There's money in providing coordination of liberal hacks + jobs for competent staffers, etc. in a way that rewards organizational loyalty and prevents us from adding to giant list of disgruntled former Dem campaign staffers
supremerobo.bsky.social
Trouble a lot of people who think they'd make good Dem foot soldiers would have is they'd have to learn how to play coalitional politics with normies. And I don't think most independent left commentators have the juice.
supremerobo.bsky.social
It's important to remember that GOP sinecures weren't always for talentless weirdos. Some of these orgs/publications used to have prestige and employ competent people
supremerobo.bsky.social
Dictatorships don't fall because the secret police decide they want to be libs. Well, not usually. It's everybody who has been going along to get along getting sick of everything
supremerobo.bsky.social
Nah that governor would appoint some normie Dem. Trying to go partisan Republican would wipe out any chance for any Republican to win in that state ever again
supremerobo.bsky.social
You don't have to win the cultists. The glue that holds the Trump coalition together isn't the die hard it's the low/no-info voters who think he's a magic money man
althistorian.bsky.social
Unfortunately I think there is a not insignificant number of Trump supporters who are OK with their lives getting worse if it helps Trump win. Like that husband whose wife got deported and yet could not bring himself to be angry at Trump.

“We refuse to pay the troops and also we’re doing indiscriminate firings of people for no reason”

I’ve never seen an administration so faithfully committed to self-immolation in my entire life

Combination of elite Dem donors prioritizing vanity projects and a lack of investment from an executive Dem. Reagan was needed to get the whole right wing scene off the ground

More and more people are saying that the Dems won the shutdown AND have used it to point out that OBBB stole American healthcare in a way that broke containment.

Independent C-SPAN caller to Rep. Mark Alford: "You're taking credit for $50b that you just gave to the hospital industry. That's after you took away $150b. You don't take credit for just giving back a little bit of money after taking away so much. So quit lying. It just makes you look horrible."

I don't have patience with people who think issue polling is dispositive

Do you think Adam Jentleson's (the "abandon LGBT people and stop talking about immigration" ex-Fetterman staffer) think tank would get those results about Bernie or AOC

The goal of getting through an economic bust is partially financial/risk management, but it's mostly about not turning into a bitter/angry/conspiratorial who can't function going forward. You don't want to turn into Michael Burry, as well as he did in 2008.

A few minutes ago in the House:

- Speaker Mike Johnson officially cancels votes next week, extending the House recess through a fourth week

- House Republicans block Democrats from passing a bill to pay the troops during the shutdown, ensuring they will miss paychecks next week
House Press Gallery: During today's pro forma session, the Clerk read a message from the Speaker designating Tuesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 19 as a district work period. Punchbowl's Briana Reilly: House gaveled in and out of its pro forma just now w/o recognizing Rep Elfreth, who was seeking to UC a mil pay bill from Rep Sykes.

Elfreth told reporters after that House Dems stand “ready and willing to take” up standalone legislation to pay troops.

it was obvious from the moment the attack happened that this was not only a tragedy for Israel but was going to become a tragedy for Palestine, and I still remember who was cheering it on.

If you were online on October 7, 2023, this is no surprise.

Overshadowed by the fact that Israel retaliated with a genocidal war is the reality that amid the attack seemingly professional/moral people spent days praising every report they found of Israelis, including children, being murdered.

This is a person who is still taken seriously and published in left-wing spaces.

To be clear: No, most Israeli Jews are not descended from Polish Jews. And even for the minority who are, it would obviously not be safe for them all to go there now, given the Polish government.

UPDATE: Newsom has signed SB 79 into law!!

This is a great day for anyone who cares about ending California's housing and homelessness crisis, getting the state to net zero emissions, and recovering American democracy.
resnikoff.bsky.social
If you live in California, please call @gavinnewsom.bsky.social at (916) 445-2841 and urge him to sign SB 79. Here's my post about why the bill is so important: publiccomment.blog/p/newsom-s-f...

If you know basic kabbalah it's actually not too hard to make a golem out of a labubu. Don't recommend it though. They have a pre-existing body-dharma. As soon as they wake they run straight for the sea. V hard to counter. Lost the first one. No idea what it's doing out there. Moved like lightning.
