Not so fun to live in a world without an agreed upon baseline reality is it, Hermetics

It's like the people who don't understand stats and doom whenever they see that 40% of the GOP would stand by Trump in the event it turned out he was caught in 4k in the Epstein Files
supremerobo.bsky.social
I don't think they think they're being tricked, they think winning once means you *instantly* win. So Dems winning and polls not showing 80% of the GOP opposing Trump means that Trump must be fought by me, the Luthen Rael of politics

We don't need to induce internal migration on a Dust Bowl-level scale just to win back power

I think many of our friends on the left have gotten a bit over their skis and seem to now think the general public only response to horrifying social shocks. The public is responding to what is happening right now. Poll numbers don't change that much until campaign season. People need to be patient.

People want the stove to be way hotter, but I live here. I like being able to make sure my wife is safe and has a fall back position. I don't want to be a hobo

farmers are probably generationally fucked. medicaid recipients are fucked barring some fix in the next budget round. rural health care systems are toast. employment is looking *very* wobbly.

for all the talk about how voters need to touch the stove, like, we are touching the stove. this [waves arms wildly] is what touching the stove looks like. nothing happens on a twitter timescale.

The reason for the ceasefire has a lot more to do with support for Israel collapsing on the US right invalidating Bibi's strategy of using DC politics to shore himself up than the Trump admin.

To the extent Trump is having any influence, it's scaring Hamas into agreeing to the ceasefire

It was really inevitable that the Trump administration would get to intactivism. I'm not much of a proponent of circumcision for non-religious reasons, but those are some of the weirdest freaks I've ever spoken to

Now the American right is increasingly of the opinion that ZOG is real while the American left is, at best, calling for the immediate recognition of an independent Palestine

He assumed American antisemitism would stay entirely domestic (and thus their only negative externality would be diaspora Jews moving back to Israel). That is not how it played out
supremerobo.bsky.social
It cannot be overstated how big of a disaster it is for Israel that Bibi has turned support for Israel into an issue that identified as right-coded in a country where the right is increasingly embracing antisemitic conspiracy theories

Your guy is running for fucking Mayor of NYC. He's not the pope.

Posting about how mean Stephen Colbert's staff treated your candidate who A. is winning and B. ended up vetoing those staff members' bad ideas is loser shit
supremerobo.bsky.social
They've been floating this for a bit and Dems have previously said it isn't enough because there's no trust the GOP won't rugpull
supremerobo.bsky.social
This is really it. I'll admit to skepticism that the Dem strategy would work or that they'd stick to it if it did, but it's clearly working and they're sticking to it. Gotta give credit where it's due

I wrote a 20-page paper in an hour and a half to get it turned in on time. Got an A and a thank you from the prof for it being fun to read.

Relying on AI makes you weak. You will not survive the winter.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

We must be clear-eyed: this is just the beginning. True peace will require building bridges, not deepening divisions. We urge all stakeholders to approach the next phases of this process with good faith, recognizing that sustainable peace is the only way forward.

Very weird combination of the declining support for Israel among the US right scaring Bibi and and Trump not suffering consequences for threatening carpet bombing of Gaza to force Hamas' hand.

FWIW it is both possible and appropriate to be grateful for the possible freeing of the hostages and withdrawal from Gaza without praising Trump, Bibi or Hamas, none of whom cares about anything but keeping power.

Really hoping this ceasefire holds. I have very little confidence that it will

Classic failure to adapt. Yes letting people touch the stove is good politics for us, but we can make it abundantly clear the right is causing us to touch the stove. Maybe we win and the temperature is lowered but there's still an equal chance they bust the filibuster to pass a partisan budget
