Individual paid newsletters are not the answer to the collapse of media outlets ... but writer collectives like @theflytrapmedia.com (and many other delightful collectives!) might be an answer.

The part of the star trek fandom that never grows and lives in a nostalgia bubble who never actually rewatches the show but loves being loud: star trek NEEDS to be serious

I'm a big fan of this 1954 video - it was made for marketing departments by the publishers of Ebony Magazine, and does some incredibly deft stepping around directly confronting the implied racism of how consumer companies treat(ed) black Americans.

Such brave, strategic resistance. Outrageous laws used against them.

Aaron Henry (Miss NAACP pres. & pharmacist) & Coahoma County NAACP organized 1961 Christmas boycott of white-owned stores in Clarksdale, Miss.

#Target It isn’t that you chose designs people didn’t like. It is how you treated lgbtq folx and how you removed dei and pride clothing. It is how you behaved as a corporation, not your buyers faults.

In 1955, a Black doctors wife who was chair of the local “colored” Red Cross demanded (in person) that a Mississippi newspaper grant her the courtesy title “Mrs” - instead of referring to her by first name only - or stop writing about her at all. A big moment in press history.

Those of us who grew up during the 1960s recall such demonstrations - at car dealerships, department stores, etc — all over the country.

I’m doing research for a project and found out about the “don’t buy where you can’t work” movement during the depression, where Black people boycotted and picketed places that wouldn’t hire us. Shout out to everyone who’s not going back to Target!

"For hours, her family couldn’t locate her. Only after coming across a video online did they realize that Figueroa had been taken by masked federal agents through video circulating the web. They were able to ping her through her iPhone location at the ICE processing center in Broadview."
NEWS: Federal agents crashed with woman’s car, pointed guns at her, dragged her out by legs, tossed her in a minivan, held her and (eventually) let her go without charges. This as Chicagoans say the immigration blitz is out of control. (DHS blames her.)

"The video cut O'Donnell's final question: "So not concerned about the appearance of corruption with this?"

"Also omitted was Trump's stammering reply: "I can't say, because — I can't say — I'm not concerned. I don't — I'd rather not have you ask the question."

There’s no screening for ovarian cancer and it’s really difficult to spot: you can’t squidge your ovaries in the shower to check for lumps. Also it’s very good at masquerading at other things, like IBS and diverticulitis.

Please take a look at this list of symptoms - and share if you can.

Trump's average disapproval rating has hit 56% in our tracker at fiftyplusone.news. He is now just a point off his (then historically low) net approval rating at this point in 2017, and nearly meeting the high point of Joe Biden's disapproval rating in 2022/late 2024 (57.3%).
