the Eromanga Sea was an early Cretaceous-era shallow sea that used to be in inland Australia.

This shallow inland sea was great for fossil beds and opal deposition so that's why they got all them opals. No one knows what the Aboriginal term "eromanga" meant anymore.

A map of the Eromanga Sea which runs from Gulf of Carpentaria, run down to around Brisbane and covers the Great Artesian Basin and covers most of Queensland, half of the Simpson Desert, but doesn't reach the Great Australia Bight.

The blue and white town sign that says "Welcome to Eromanga, further town from the sea" in the arid outback terrain but also the sign is wrong. Not about where it is, but the furthest town from the sea bit.
