Youngest child, who has very long hair, which they insist on keeping but hate having brushed: "How long will it TAKE??"

Me: "You're almost done. It's beautiful."

Child: "I don't want to be beautiful."

Me: "Oh? What would you like to be?"

Child: "I want to be weird."

Truly this is my child.
Going back to repost this because I am seeing a surprising amount of mass confusion about what happened here. I think Anil has it right.
I don't mean this in an "I told you so" way, but it was very obvious to me that the Mamdani/Trump meeting would go the way it did, because Mamdani is ascendant, popular, powerful and charismatic, all things that Trump wants to glom on to. Trump has no principles; it's not like he has converted.

Wow.

Wild stuff. Joi Ito apologizing to Epstein for MIT bouncing his donation just months before the New Yorker expose. And negotiating more $ 3mo before Epstein died.

Somehow the media lab involvement still stings.

Just the quirkiest recent example, but Claude is killing it lately.

I'm a PTA volunteer and handle assorted digital stuff. Organizations are constantly distributing flyers for families with QR codes on them -- digitally. Weird example of how designing everything for phones falls down. (1/2)

I adore Fei-Fei Li and was intrigued that she's been talking lately about "words to worlds". But I feel the disappointment deep in my gut that apparently what's meant by 'world' is 360 image gen.

I know it's AI culture to release something and presume extrapolation, but that doesn't work anymore.

To an extent this is already true, but as elsewhere, AI will accelerate it: the "machine internet" will expand & complexify. There is an enormous amount of work to be done to make it legible, tooled for human collaboration. The legibility is bidirectional; new info structures for machines as well.
The launch of ChatGPT Atlas makes me think about how inefficient it is for AIs to use websites made for humans. It seems clear that we'll end up with a lot of traffic happening directly between AI agents - I hope that as we move in that direction we can keep a focus on standards and interoperability

JACL honors everyone who has served, from the Issei who fought despite being barred from citizenship during WWI, to the Nisei who served in WWII even though their families were incarcerated, and to many others who have served then and now.

We thank all of them for their service.

Alt: a woman in a black dress says "it - it - the f - it - flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face...". It is an animated gif of Madeline Kahn in the 1985 film "Clue".

Hi, everybody. +>50 followers in a day? I assume I got added to a list? I've been trying to find the right lists!

The combination of my name change ( www.3sxp.com/blog/whats-i... ) and platform transfer seems to be working against me in terms of being found here.

Great conv w/ Jon Stewart and Geoffrey Hinton on how AI works & what we should be concerned about. I'm glad to see that Hinton's statements have become significantly refined and he seems to be homing in on real issues. Grounded public discourse on AI is so important. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrK3...

It should be an actual law that if you send internet hate on the basis of a thing you did not read, you absolutely do get fined the amount required by the paywall & it gets sent to the author.

You should get banned for death threats, but when you TLDR'd it first? Jail. Jail for one thousand years.
It’s futile but I guess I just want to say again that the people who are sending me dozens of YOU’RE NEXT CUNT DMs & website comments 100,000% did not actually read the Substack piece they want to murder me over because IT’S UNDER A PAYWALL & I MAKE SO LITTLE I KNOW THEY DIDN’T ACTUALLY BOTHER
Great talk, Elon, apparently the numerous death threats and violent porn sent to me because I spoke are super wonderful.
