I remember when that original comic was posted. It was so chilling. I'm happy to see 15 years have already passed!

Here's how it looks with generic emissive white test-particles. Was thinking of using this for energy-shields, dash after-images, etc.

#UE5 Niagara tip: the default "Initialize Mesh Reproduction Sprite" module uses random triangle coordinates, so it's not uniform if your topology isn't uniform. I fixed this for my low-poly models by duping & patching it to use GetTriangleCoordAtUV instead with my surface-uniform baked-UVs.

this is a real indie dev horror story

an unorthodox game getting pre banned by steam and the team patently and methodically attempting to get in touch with a human at valve to sort it out and just getting nowhere
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

After 20 years, at the age of 43, I finally have a frame for my bed instead of sleeping on a mattress directly on the floor.

Listing any one of her accomplishments feels like it it does it justice, and listing all of them would take hours. What a legend, what a loss.

in the early 2000s Rebecca took the time to chat over IRC with a teenaged and gender-confused Me on the practicalities of transition - in a time where being out as trans online was something that could get you socially ostracized. I owe her a lot for that and only hope I can pay it forward.
My trailblazing game industry bad-ass friend Rebecca Heineman has passed away.

Fuck cancer.

Friends, let’s not forget her: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca...

I remember 2013 being the last time I read about significant research on fibromyalgia linking it to "central nervous system don't work right," so it's really exciting to see more progress! Hopefully the peer reviews are enlightening.

Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint - Medical Republic
A massive global study links the chronic pain condition to 26 genes associated with brain signalling, marking a turning point in understanding its biological roots.

Looking for recommendations on earbuds that can survive accidentally being run through the wash. Wired with USB-C connection is preferred but I'll do wireless too if it comes down to it.

“average gamedev makes $142,000 a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average gamedev makes $0 per year. Executives Georg, who lives in cave & makes over $10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

even if you know your dem senator would *never* call them anyway and tell them how much you appreciate that they would *never* and their dedication and integrity is why they have your vote
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

This is a great read.

Also: important to realise that this industry has become *persistently terrifying* for your favourite devs, and that is no atmosphere in which to be creative.

Try to buy games, if you're able. Buy lots of games. Review and share them if you love them. Talk about them.

AI is ruining real stuff

This. Your vote in today’s elections will carry 2x-10x more weight than in an “on” year containing a presidential election.

Go vote!
US friends, please go vote today in local elections (I voted early by mail already). Fewer people turnout in smaller elections so your engagement really matters.
