Music of the magnetosphere. Stress-energy tensors in the global music plasma, revealed.

I make archival boxes for comics & slipcases for books & LPs. Here’s one for the first 3 arcs of Monstress by M. Liu and @sanatakeda.bsky.social that I will be posting on eBay shortly — Takeda’s art made the custom shoulder really nice, but I do generic boxes, too. (See next post for detail views.)

If you haven't spent time with the incredible Open Reel Ensemble, you'll want to. The group composes ethereal tracks using reel-to-reel recorders.

I move that this be called “musical hypoapotomia” or “playlist hypoapotomia”…
I want music but idk what kind I want. There should be a name for this.

An amazing piece well worth anyone’s time and attention.

“Yes non-citizens driving very fast in an urban area we better look closely at whether to send ICE, oooh can I sit in the pink Lego Cadillac?”

I hope tourists from at *least* 150+ nations boycott the World Cup and the Olympics, even if the athletes don’t.
Did Kristi and Kash get to Vegas in one of Kristi's Gulfstream G700 private jets taxpayers paid $200,000,000 for or did they use a $60,000,000 FBI private jet that taxpayers also paid for? These are incompetent fools only on the job for the attention and theft.

Geez, settle down Bluesky, what the hell

This is a great secondary comment I first saw in Pynchon’s Vineland: these shows exist mainly to refresh our empathy for police.
Fun fact: this is explicitly why Dick Wolf created Law & Order: he violently hates defense attorneys and felt tere weren't enough shows about how defendants and their lawyers are scum

(also when somebody "gets off on a technicality" that actually means the cops committed a crime against them)

amc = one of the all-time great editors imo. wrote for suck-dot-com (as LeTeXan) in the ’90s and her edits on both ideas (thinking through the conceit of a piece) and style were excellent.
And I’m only on Bluesky now bc I was breaking my brain against a piece that just would not come together. It sucks to be reminded that some writing gets out into the world that no one really tried to make better.

Top 5 movie genres:

- “You have powers!” “wha-a? OH!”
- “Have powers, would rather not”
- Quirky Crew heist
- “I totally lost my way… oh here it is”
- “Power. HUUH! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing”

That gets 80% of them and covers Michael Clayton, Sense8, and Slow Horses, so… yeah.
Top 5 movie genres:

- It’s a musical but everyone’s sad.
- “Damn this infernal heat!”
- It’s a Christmas movie but everyone’s sad.
- Wise-cracking gangster but he’s doomed
- It’s a western but everyone’s sad.
Top 5 movie genres:

- Does this robot / monster have a soul? (Yes it does)
- Sassy New York newspaper gal does not need love but finds it anyway
- I travelled in time or space. It was a mistake.
- You’re supposed to be the victim of my crime but I love you
- Being a detective is miserable but hot

If you can teach a student this, you’ve done a good job.

WHEN the AI bubble bursts, LLMs still exist, right? They’re evil and degrade existing knowledge with their obsequious, probabilistic word vomit, sure. But they’ve proliferated. Anyone can download one.

They’ll be a scourge, no? Like smallpox or white supremacy. Right? We’ll have to eradicate them?

Why do we have five fingers instead of four or six?

Evolution suggests there’s an advantage.

Maybe it’s to get discounts?

Also you have “all but won” the Mega Millions jackpot.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

Hell, I object even to the characterization of The New York Observer as “read by the city’s elite.” How about “a weekly paper, once fairly respected, but then demeaned and ruined by passing into the hands of a 25-year-old Jared Kushner.” I enjoyed the mid-’90s iteration and even subscribed.

Absolutely. Even just Bandcamp listening parties (since I’m on a real choke-chain of a budget). Juana Molina’s listening party for her new album made me breathe funny.
I'm thankful that at my age I haven't lost that giddy excitement feeling of finding records and CD's that make me want to rush straight home and listen to it immediately.

I don’t do it nearly as often as I’d like. Thanks for being a great role model @bookshop.org !!
I haven’t ruined a workplace, but I do take pride in ruining Jeff Bezos’ day every single chance I get.

Still two of the greatest @theonion.com headlines ever, imo. It’s genuinely unsettling how often I think of these two.

I definitely think of the CD-R one more. My stack just turned 15.

I have been called “David” more times than I can count, but I tolerate it because it’s my father’s name. (None of my names are David. It is just some spooky, cosmic connection.)
I have unfollowed people on social media who have called me Andy. It’s not my name. I am not an Andy. You might as well call me Ronald. Call people by the name they want.

“Maybe I shouldn’t use index cards for story elements AND to-do lists…”

Coming soon: a chapter in my “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets High Fidelity” novel where the deuteragonist switches from USAA to The Hartford for car insurance.
Ah, yes... the super fun game of "Where Did I Write Down All Those Story Notes?"

You’ve inherited a movie theater. What’s your first double feature?

Merentau (2009) followed by Midsommar (2019).

Unlike, and yet alike. Also works if the theater is a drive-in.

Literally bulldozing the country’s heritage.

Metaphorically too, of course, but you don’t often get to use “literally” the ways it’s literally always being used these days.
