Mike Greenwell was both better and not quite as good of a player as you might remember him. He was touted as the heir to left field in Fenway, taking the mantle from Rice, Yaz, and Williams. He welcomed the symbolism. He was ultimately not on their level as a player, but damn few are.

Well thank god someone's there to tell us. Because it's not like there was a major Hollywood movie 20-some years ago that portrayed him as a complex, uncompromising, troubled, visionary musical genius.
