The last 24 hours I lurked on Twitter more than anytime since I quit it, and one thing dawned on me - I think there are a lot of libs who actually just enjoy "the fight" .. there is something cathartic about dunking or replying to a conservative making a dumb point, and you obviously lose that here
Washington Post was also going to have a huge surge in subscriptions with Trump term 2 because of the massive "resistance" niche that was going to occur and the fact that Bezos went this direction is the best evidence he'd rather see the whole paper burn than have it actual journalism

A lot of American political discourse boils down to either MAGA acting like the country is more conservative than it is or leftists acting like the country is less conservative than it is.

This manifests in frustration that the country won't go along with their agenda.

And I also have no reason to believe this will work. Short form video at the NYT, for example, typically directs you to read the articles that contain the substance of the reporting. With diminished reporting capacity, the videos will lack substance.
the fact that wapo is closing every single part of the newspaper that attracts readers in order to focus on vertical short form video and opinion columns makes it very clear that the bezos takeover isn't about business. it's not even about propaganda. it's about showing off his power and clout

They polled "do you support deporting illegal immigrants?"

and it polled at +8 in New York, on a D+27 voting intention. It was only -14 with Dems. There were lots of undecideds, but it was favorable with all racial groups as well.

Relatedly the Republican Party still has a trust advantage on the issue of immigration over the Democratic Party. Voters don't like the visible cruelty and the secret police but it's not translated into a Dem advantage on the issue.
even in New York state Trump has a positive approval on the border

Philidelphia DA Larry Krasner warns ICE: If an agent commits crimes in Philly, I will charge you. You will be arrested. You will stand trial, and you will be convicted in state or federal court and you will do your time. Donald Trump can't pardon you for a state court conviction.

As an influencer, Nick Shirley had struggled to expand his reach. But after a missionary trip pushed him to try a new approach, he caused a sensation with a video claiming to expose fraud at Somali-run day care centers in Minnesota. nyti.ms/45GzJi4

Pretty wild to me how many pundits and academics treated Republican opposition to the notion of Supreme Court expansion during the Biden administration as a serious, principled stance, as opposed to a position Republicans would obviously abandon the moment it became convenient
Republicans Love Supreme Court Expansion When It Gets Them What They Want
When it comes to state supreme courts, Republican politicians have been happy to add (or subtract) justices as they see fit.

Very much yes!
So the lesson here is Democrats have to find a candidate with irresistible charisma who is immune to wreckers and whose achievements can be inflated by his or her fans.

CASSIDY: Now we have a measles outbreak among those who did not trust. To further cast doubt upon the vaccines for no scientific reason - that's not gonna increase trust

Republicans campaign message for 2026 is that partying with "Mr. Epstein" is cool, your premiums went up cause of illegals, houses should be more expensive (even after sending 4 year immigrants to detention centers, which was supposed to solve the housing crisis), and affordability is a fake word
Blanche: It's not a crime to party with Mr. Epstein.

+48 approval in NYC (68-20)
