I keep saying it, but furries are a queer subculture, and conservatives have been targeting them with actual bigotry for decades now. This thread should horrify any LGBTQ person. This could happen to any young queer person.
A few years ago, it was popular among furries to joke about the idea of "coming out" as a furry because it's just a hobby. You can't come out as having a hobby!

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

this is a good thread and yet (with no shade to micah at all) i think it is deeply weird to ever have a fucking “birthrates” conversation if you’re not, like, a sociologist or ethnographer or whatever and the fact that we’ve been doing it as a society for like 9 years is fucking bizarre.
the birthrate discussion I think always circles around a core reality that nobody really wants to talk about, which is that - when living in a stable society that does not rely on your family needing more children for support - most people don’t want many kids and no incentives will change that
