our world is filled with invisible subsidies for the rich buried several layers deep, exhibit infinity billion:
Meanwhile, this ONE SINGLE HOUSE inside the gated golf club is assessed at $10 million.
This one house on 0.42 acre had to paid $74,608 in property taxes in 2025.
And yet the ENTIRE 122 ACRE private golf course - paid just $85,770 in combined taxes that can go toward our schools.

These are also the absolute most ecologically and environmentally destructive neighborhoods in all of Seattle. Massive amounts of polluting pesticides and fertilizers for invasive lawn grass. Huge docks and armored shorelines that OBLITERATE salmon habitat. Absolutely 100% car dependent lifestyles.
Shown in red are where extremists live in Seattle.

Here are what some of these areas look like.

Paul has been talking about the tax loophole that Seattle country clubs have been enjoying for a while now but WOW I did not know how big

This is Broadmoor Golf Club. It's a gated right-wing enclave for the rich in Seattle. The golf course is 7 parcels, 122.2 acres. It's assessed at just $76k/ACRE!

My latest is all about what we should expect to see in terms of homelessness and public safety when Katie Wilson takes office as Seattle's mayor next year.

For some weekend reading, @thestranger.com partnered with The Guardian to explore what it means to run a winning mayoral campaign as a community organizer.
Katie Wilson’s rise from transit campaigner to city hall shows how trust, volunteers and years of organizing overcame big-money politics.

Dan Levy openly says that Schitt's Creek would not have survived anywhere except the CBC because it was weird and took a season or so to find its feet... Just for reference if you wanna know the ROI on this approach to supporting creative things.
Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

Share the Cities has shaped (if not defined!) so much of my understanding of policy and advocacy around urbanism!

I’ve learned so much of how to look beyond surface-level partisan critiques and how to organize around the many things that make cities healthy and livable places for people to exist!

I think it’s time for me to start thinking more seriously about how to connect the Seattle urbanism advocates and the Seattle arts and culture community.

Our arts and culture communities have *been* leading when it comes to urbanism tbh, and our goals are so intertwined.
ANOTHER great example (thanks to the Wilson transition team for jogging my memory!) is the Watershed Community Development team — which grew out of the Equinox Studios complexes in Georgetown.

Expect to see a lot more from them in the coming years
