We know everyone is asking for your money this month, but here's a twist: We're NOT asking you to donate in December, we're asking you to spread the word.

Help the trans people and allies who don't know Assigned Media's reputation for excellence and originality in trans news find us!

The thing about all the anti-trans sports panic: people argue this stuff while talking about elite level sports, but because there aren't actually a ton of superhuman trans women blowing away the competition, the people actually affected end up being those who play sports for fun/socialization

Last week @theverge.com published my essay exploring the limitations of large-language models. This week, that same essay is cited by a federal judge in Michigan to distinguish the process of human reasoning from what these models do. Very, very gratifying.

holy shit, an accurate legal critique of LLMs. LLMs don't reason because they're just stitching together plausible-looking sentences indifferent to the content

Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

There's some discontinued Google print service that has to maintain a server to send any compatible printer a glorified "👍" when it asks, bc if they don't, the printers en masse will DDOS them

I think abt it every time there's a public good that would cost Nonzero Money but save More Money

No Players Online is extremely cool and has you sleuthing around a old PC desktop and has little games within the game. A lot of love and care was put into all the little details!! It deserved better than being stifled immediately after release so please check it out if you can!
hello bsky! our game was taken down due to a false DMCA which completely killed our momentum at launch. our studio is in a very precarious position right now. please share and spread the word, steam has been little help to our situation.

For the first time since 1988, the U.S. did not officially commemorate World AIDS Day.

At the same time, the Trump admin is degrading America’s most basic HIV protections and unraveling decades of progress. The consequences will be grave if things are not turned around. Read more from my story here
America’s most basic HIV protections are in danger as a decade of progress unravels
Health experts are alarmed as Republicans degrade the country’s pivotal HIV programs — and break promises made during Trump’s first term.

There is no technology that "ought" to exist for its own sake, IMO. There are technologies that are useful, and needs that ought to be met, but we aren't obligated to humor an invention just because it has been invented.

I think a lot of GenAI exists for its own sake.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

This is wonderful news, and also means it’s time for me to beat the drum I always do when HPV vaccines make the news:

They are not only for women! HPV also causes penile, anal, and head and neck cancers. The latter are particularly deadly. Please vaccinate ALL your children.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

A lot of indie bookstores will buy 1–3 copies of a book, especially graphic novels as a test to see how they sell. If they sell even 1–3 copies, it opens the door not just for a reorder of that book, but for more books in that format in general.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.

And here I thought it would've been too on the nose to draw an artist's rendering of the time I saw an empty Waymo blocking a packed bus during a traffic jam...
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.
