I'm not overly surprised that Carney is actually a piece of shit and just helps reinforce a feeling that the political elite are in cahoots.

Feels an awful lot like Labour in the UK who had huge support because *NOT* doing right wing stuff, and then once in power doing a bunch of right-wing stuff.
The idea of CRA “lean[ing] into AI to free up staff resources” should be setting off some red flags. Other departments are being forced too.

He’s cutting “development funding for global health programs” and funding for public transit. Cutting back on Statistics Canada seems so short-sighted too.

Of course apropos to my previous repost, very understandable that there's a lot of this feeling going around (myself included)
Yup, pretty much sums it up

End of a lengthy thread (so easier to scroll up and read) but saw a few people I know and trust and are also outraged at the current moment.

Note that while he states some impressions of things, there is often subtext/caveats of "if the Dems use this appropriately" which we're all skeptical of rn.

All of these political experts in my replies and I've never run into a single one of them when I'm on the Hill doing a bicameral briefing on SNAP and Medicaid.

It's so goddamn strange, where are all of you vaunted experts hiding????

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

Caylan Ford is suing me and PressProgress, along with trusted news organizations like CBC News, the Toronto Star, as well as other award-winning journalists

Caylan Ford says she wants to “impose costs” on us as part of a larger crusade to “fight back against cancel culture” 🙄

But this lawsuit is so much bigger than me or PressProgress

This lawsuit could have chilling implications for journalism and democracy in Canada

Caylan Ford is also asking the court to protect politicians’ secrets and prevent journalists from reporting on documents leaked by whistleblowers

To be clear: PressProgress stands behind its journalism

We took multiple steps to verify the authenticity of Caylan Ford’s statements and gave Caylan Ford multiple opportunities to explain her words

Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

Your colleagues promised us — promised activists, promised social media influencers, promised organizations — that they were actually going to fight for the ACA, that it was non-negotiable.

You lied to us. You betrayed us. And this is your plan? I know you're not this stupid Sheldon.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

I have to imagine far-right Catholics are really struggling with the fact that they can now hear this stuff in English directly from the pope.
“How did you receive the foreigner? And did you receive him and welcome him or not?”

Pope Leo XIV challenges us to reflect on the moral cost of policies that target deeply-root immigrants and families.

The lack of a "anti-Fox News" is not a story of market failure. Media plutocrats have chosen to leave money on the table because they don't want to support challenges to plutocracy.

Oh this was the video that (some) people on here were baselessly saying had to be AI because it was so insane. Anyway this is standard ICE operating procedure now: crash into your car, violently drag you through the street at gunpoint, & then have tricia mclaughlin lie that you were assaulting them
NEWS: Federal agents crashed with woman’s car, pointed guns at her, dragged her out by legs, tossed her in a minivan, held her and (eventually) let her go without charges. This as Chicagoans say the immigration blitz is out of control. (DHS blames her.)
