I've got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. Biologist, writer, cross-stitcher, maybe a witch. Do you think we were born in the woods to be frightened by owls?

if there was a rich person with the will, you could build the most incredible news organization that has ever existed just from the wreckage of this year alone.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
Well, it might explain some things.

People fucking hate this guy. They fucking hate ICE. They fucking hate how much power he has. He is at 63% overall disapproval to 37% approval. That's lower than their poll after January 6th. And this poll was done before he started intentionally starving people. I wish our media would reflect this.
But do you live in NYC? The rich people who feel this way don't live there now.

Yet the media is covering the Trump Shutdown as if it's a huge political problem for *Democrats* — ironically an attempt to pressure Dems into helping Trump staunch the bleeding of his own popularity by rescuing him from his own shutdown.
Trump posts his worst-ever net approval rating in a CNN poll this morning, 37% to 63% (-26) s3.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

POTUS has nothing on his public schedule today until phoning it in to a couple of tele-rallies in NJ & VA. At 7pm. Recovering from a long 3 day weekend in Palm Beach while 42M Americans go to work & school without SNAP benefits. USA is being destroyed by a lazy, spoiled predator.
I guarantee if they wanted to live in the middle of nowhere to count their money, they'd already be there.
Once again: rich people live where they want to live. They're not going to move to [wherever that is not NYC, a place where they already pay a lot of money to live] because of some maybe policies.
(We heard the same thing in MA when we passed a millionaire's tax. Guess what didn't happen.)

Primary them all.
The Dems who voted to confirm Brooke Rollins:

Baldwin (WI)
Bennet (CO)
Booker (NJ)
Cortez Masto (NV)
Durbin (IL)
Fetterman (PA)
Gallego (AZ)
Hassan (NH)
Heinrich (NM)
Hickenlooper (CO)
Klobuchar (MN)
Ossoff (GA)
Peters (MI)
Rosen (NV)
Schiff (CA)
Shaheen (NH)
Slotkin (MI)
Warnock (GA)
Welch (VT)
Brooke Rollins calls food stamps "a broken and corrupt program" and says, "guess what? There's a new sheriff in town. His name is Donald Trump."

I wrote in the New York Times about how I think companies saying women are leaving because of "return to office" is a cop out. Nursing, a fundamentally in person job, is almost 90% female. So what do women really want? Boundaries.

The second this man lost the Democratic primary and said “Nah, fuck that, I’m gonna run anyway” he was no longer a Democrat.
There are many people who have shown themselves to be really awful people, but, man, the Dilbert guy is way shittier than I ever would have imagined.
Adams has railed against vaccines, and science in general, for many years. Kennedy cut funding for promising work including mRNA vaccines for prostate cancer. Just, the audacity here.
Healthcare but only for my friends

Democrats say this constantly, but when front pages of The NY Times and everyone else refuses to acknowledge it, or thinks stating it is is being a Dem partisan, how do you break through?
“every time theres a republican president the economy collapses” feels like pretty easy messaging on the economy
Congrats to everyone who put Republicans in charge "for the economy," the first three quarters of 2025 already had more layoffs than any of the years in which Biden or Obama was President except 2009 (when Dems were still cleaning up the prior Republican mess).

This isn’t even the first time it would happen - you can literally just go back to when Eric Adams first ran for mayor, and when he got into office, to see how the media manufactured a crime wave that helped push his pro-police agenda at the expense of every other city service.

"People like Merrick Garland think that they’re eschewing politics. The reality is the opposite: The careful avoidance of anything that appears political is itself a political act. It is a performance, intended to convey to your audience that you are neutral and unbiased. It’s institutional PR."

this is why I think Matt Yglesias’ stance that we shouldn’t talk about anything other than healthcare is insane

the average American doesn’t yet realize that Trump has created a Gestapo. Democrats need to talk about it and raise awareness of videos like this rather than just ignore it.
Here’s a disturbing video from Evanston of a federal agent hitting a man on the ground as people yell that he can’t breathe.

Drug test every member of Congress. Twice weekly. They do important work for us, and should be held to the same drug free standards as railroad conductors.
Drug testing people for food assistance is just telling people who have addiction (which is a disease) that they should fuck off and starve to death.

I don't believe in starving people because of health conditions.
I have been predicting that he's gonna bring back the draft before the end of the year.

With open enrollment underway, annual reminder that we could have had healthcare for all if it weren't for Joe Lieberman.

The CT senator didn't back the public option bc he had no political base after becoming an Independet), which meant he cldn't afford to lose the insurance coffers...HQd in CT.
Friendly reminder that Usha kinda sucks as well.

More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."
In the 1st question of his brief interview with Mamdani. Anderson Cooper reports Trump’s strongman threats to punish NYC if the Mayoral candidate is elected, as if he gets to select where funding goes according to his whims, & then asks whether voters will find it “worth the hassle” to vote for him.

We can see how they reacted to Mamdani, whose proposals are mostly fairly modest "kitchen-table" polices, I believe all of which have already been tried either in NYC or elsewhere.

But he's apparently a radical socialist who will bring the Red Terror to America.
Another fundamentally cynical aspect of this narrative is the idea that pundits like Douthats wouldn't *also* accuse Democrats of radicalism if they passed a bunch of 'kitchen-table' policies. Are we really gonna pretend the NYT op-ed page would support a $20 minimum wage?
This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.
