🌉🌉🍃🍃COVERED BRIDGE: VERMONT MASTER THREAD🌉🌉🍃🍃

Already off to a GREAT start: when driving from eastern MA to Bennington, we passed right by a bridge in Brattleboro that is closed to traffic so wasn’t on my list. The Creamery bridge!!
Ok so a little trial and error but I figured out which ribbing I wanted to do on the sleeve and the length and LOOKIT HOW CUTE IT LOOKS. LOOKIT. (Still have to actually do the ribbing around all the borders so yes it’ll come together more in the front don’t worry)

so people discussing delicate matters that the wouldn't want surveilled are opting to have meetings in person? shocking

started out as a feast of seven fishes italian-american family, but my dad hates fish so we slowly migrated into a ham christmas family
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.
I also use the bacon method. Although turkey is Christmas dinner where I come from.

I think people should realize here that Mark Kelly is a very savvy politician who doesn't really move from where his constituents are and is notoriously careful because he's a democrat from Arizona.

The fact that he's doing this isn't just presidential ambition, it means his voters want it.
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

Read chronicles of Narnia when I was 6. went to college, read some Plato. A key part of his philosophy is recollection theory. Reading Plato’s cave felt like a memory so I figured man, this Plato guy must be right. Committed my life to him.

Turns out there’s a Plato’s cave scene in Silver Chair
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

On rare occasions something like the poop jet video or Trump Tower Gaza will get picked up a bit, but it's... a choice... to mostly treat it as not even newsworthy that his "Truth" feed is now a constant flood of full-blown manic psychosis.

So for 2 of my classes, my students have 2 essays they have to write, and then an in-class midterm and in-class final, which are short answer/short essay questions (I did not design this class; I am teaching a set syllabus).

They had a really, really, really hard time on the midterm. Strugglebus

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.
November 23, 2025 at 7:13 PM
I have a colleague who does this. My problem is: I can't get over the ethical weight of requiring students to use LLMs. The environmental cost, the cost of contributing to "see people are using these!" etc etc. I don't want to ever direct my students towards them.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.
