Born in the USA is about how America is awesome, and good to everyone who grew up there.

Fortunate Son is about how war is great, and the rich kids who got out of the draft had more important things to do.

Rage Against the Machine was angry about wokeness and Medicaid spending. Just ask Paul Ryan.

if I taught journalism students, I would assign them this story—in small groups, each group would get to choose any instance of “clash,” and rewrite it, identifying the aggressor. can they reach a historian in a few hours? a research librarian to recommend a source? recall their own educations?
Insurrection Act: How it's been used and what Trump wants to do with it
Donald Trump would not be the first president to invoke the Insurrection Act, as he has now threatened to do as a way to send U.S. military forces to Minnesota.

Another person taken today in Northeast. ICE left their car out in the road and pepper sprayed legal observers, directly violating a federal judge’s orders from earlier this week.

ICE and MAGA really did bet the farm on all of Minneapolis’s white people going “oh yes, please take away our disgusting, evil non-white-foreigner neighbors, oh thank you so much.”

it’s beautiful that they’ve been proven incredibly wrong about that - may the rest of the country do the same.

We care a lot about how stories begin at the @mississippifreepress.org.
This article starts "...Harris laughed..." It's the first sentence. That kind of sticks with me. She's always laughing and smiling and somehow we chose the guy who's never smiled in his life.
Good article. Support MFP.
“Kamala, you don’t know what you mean to Jackson, Mississippi,” Jackson Mayor John Horhn told Harris on stage on Jan. 14. “You don’t know what you mean to America.”

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

The Intercontinental in downtown St Paul is also shutting for now.
According to the Pioneer Press, they're both operated by an indigenous tribe, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

FYI, ICE has been arresting Native Americans.

For example, we don't want a perpetual cycle of purge and counter-purge in the civil service every time there's a new administration. But those protections can't be reestablished and strengthened until there is a purge of all the corrupt Trumpists and criminals now in place. They have to go first.
