I fucking wish. The heat pump is fine in the summer, when the dehumidifying function keeps the house cool, but in very cold weather it doesn't circulate the heat well & we either boil or shiver. Might be bc of our old house's layout, but we're not getting rid of the radiators yet.
"Don’t let the federal push for petroleum keep you from making the switch. Heat pumps keep you warm in winter, cool in summer — and are a lot better for the planet."

(switching to a heat pump will reduce its carbon emissions by nearly 3 tons a year -oil=6 tons)

n.b. the article includes a link to a gofundme for ferreira's legal fees

i cannot believe what fucking scum these republicans are. even after all this time my mind just boggles
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...
‘Brazil is not her home.’ Mother of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew, brought to US as child, detained by ICE. - The Boston Globe

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

Saturday, I went to Howl! Arts/Howl! Archive (HA/HA), 250 Bowery, for an event related to the exhibit “DQNY30: The Drag Queens of New York”…and to see the exhibit itself. “Short bursts indicate an ICE sighting. Long whistles indicate agents making arrests. If you hear the whistle and you’re undocumented, said [Whitney Hu, a community activist and organizer with South Brooklyn Mutual Aid], ‘you hide. And if you’re somebody who’s not, you go to the street.’”
As ICE Street Raids Ramp Up, New Yorkers Stock Up On Whistles
Taking a cue from Chicago, community groups have distributed thousands of whistles in recent weeks — a grassroots system people in other cities have adopted to help neighbors sound the alarm.

For every surveillance state to function, there must be a critical mass of people who willingly act as snitches to further the regime's ideology.

I lived through this firsthand, money isn't the motivating factor for these people, it's the satisfaction of seeing people they hate suffer
