Yes, absolutely. Popular understanding of cortisol as a source of distress is very close to ‘black bile.’ Even amongst many GPs, I’d warrant. Out of curiosity, do you think there are other modes of medieval/early modern modes of thinking that are having a revival lately? (Huge question, I know!)

Like most good op-eds, this piece articulates the nuances of something I’ve been thinking about a lot without realising it. There’s a certain value in recognising how often our mood is at the mercy of neurochemicals that can be swiftly adjusted. However, we are not merely dopamine slot machines.

Netanyahu's mouthpiece, Amit Segal, casually admits on Twitter that his country has been holding 1,700 people from Gaza hostage, including children.
Among other things, according to the decision:

- 250 security prisoners will be released.
- 1,700 residents of the Gaza Strip who were not involved in the events of October 7 and were arrested after the massacre will be released.
- 22 minors under the age of 18, residents of the Gaza Strip who were not involved in the events of October 7 and were arrested after the massacre, will be released.
- 360 bodies of terrorists will be returned.

You mean like that lad who picks on a very marginalised and vulnerable group every other week and then gets given column space in multiple publications to complain about being cancelled? Yes, Naoise Dolan is a substantially braver and better person than him.

I feel like most Irish and British writers who complain about being silenced have never done anything as brave as what Naoise has done here

I met my wife through blogging. We were reading and enjoying each other’s posts long before we met or even knew what the other one looked like.

It’s unbelievable, isn’t it? I know they’re a shower of dimwits but I refuse to believe the government couldn’t have found a way to exclude multinationals with billions in turnover from this tax break

Also, I’d love to know what any Americans reading this make of a presidential candidate being shamed into dropping out because they had an unpaid debt of, ummm, €3300. No missing zeros on that.
andclarke.bsky.social
I won’t lie, part of me feels some weird nostalgia or pride or something in the notion that a presidential candidate might feel some shame about their past actions and how they bring the office into disrepute. Like, awwwww.

He himself has said the office of Uachtarán na hÉireann is the highest in the land and the pinnacle of public service. He is clear that he does not want to bring controversy onto this office.

If you are a supporter and reader of @contingent-mag.bsky.social one of the biggest things you can do to help us at the moment is get this CFP to the NTT folks in your life. The fracturing of social media has made it very difficult to get the word out esp. to adjuncts and VAPs.
CFP: A Time of Monsters
The monster has been here all along. It is a historical constant that manifests in wildly different ways across time, place, and culture. Whatever form it takes, the monster claws at categories; it un...

Shit, I hadn’t even realised they were here. Following in your tradition, I’m going to rock up to their Vancouver show and persuade a guy to let me in.

Remember Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, who had a fairly underwhelming year at Bohs in 2022? He recently signed for Dungannon Swifts, which I believe is his 22nd club across 4 countries in his 12 year pro football career. He’s 31.
