I’m immensely proud to have passed my PhD viva yesterday. My thanks to my examiners, Prof Madhu Krishnan and @gavant.bsky.social, and to inspring scholars such as @sarahbrouillette.bsky.social, @hystericalblkns.bsky.social, @dan-sinnamon.bsky.social and @annakornbluh.bsky.social, who are all cited.
I cycled past an SUV in traffic a few weeks ago where the driver had his phone in his hand, in addition to a massive screen on his in-built satnav and a mounted iPad with a movie playing. Checking his left wing mirror was a fairly low priority.
I'm all for road safety but you could have every cyclist in the land wearing a full suit of Christmas lights and drivers fucking around on their phones will still knock them down

Really lovely piece. A timely reminder of why lit scholars, tutors and lecturers do what we do.

It is genuinely insane to see a judge describe Graham Linehan as a “generally credible witness” in a trial where he claimed Sophia Brooks has been engaged in “trans activism” since 2013 (when she would’ve been 6 years old), then, when challenged, claimed her drivers license lied about her age.

A properly ethical business selling the best coffee in Ireland. Including gift boxes. Nothing to think about here.
This is my 6th year posting this same message. Black Friday is a nonsense with often pretend discounts on stuff you probably don’t need. We’ll do as we always do at this time and increase the 1% of all income we give to Women’s Aid to 10% on web sales over the weekend. Fuck Black Friday. #speirgorm

Was out of work 17 years ago, watched a documentary about coffee farmers and trade unions and decided to start a coffee business. It was a big struggle for a long time. Really grateful we got mentioned yesterday in Irish Times 50 great brands. Never underestimate timing, dumb luck and persistence.

Incredible not just that this happened, but that it’s not even a second or third tier news story, let alone something Farage will actually be held accountable for. Doesn’t make the top 15 stories on either the BBC or the Guardian! Filed under “Wales”.

Phone changed the start of a message to a mate from “hey bud” to “hey baby” and I just about caught it. There is no-one in my life who I address as ‘baby’ and I doubt I’ve typed those words together before. Autocorrect is ducking annoying these days.

I very much enjoyed the sight of pretty much nobody holding up a phone at any stage during My Bloody Valentine’s rehearsal gig last night. But I did have to grab a shot of Kevin Shields’ selection of 22 guitars, visible from the wings when you went to the jacks

Elsewhere everyone’s laughing about Grok’s sycophantic answers about Musk’s intelligence and physical prowess, but the project is to make the truth too expensive (in terms of time and resources) for ordinary people to find. Most users will accept the ‘truth’ provided by the model owners.

Honestly, I have so much more sympathy for the Qanon people as it's become clearer that we really are ruled by a decadent pedophilic elite.

As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.
