I was thinking about keeping up with all the X-books post-Krakoa, but they decide to publish about 47 X-books per month and that just put me off the whole thing! Not sure this Age of Revelation is going to change minds.

I will keep reading the core X-MEN team books and events - I think X-Men’s appeal is the team dynamic, and you don’t get the same from the solo books, so I’m fine with that. Maybe stuff like Aaron’s Wolverine but I will have to be very selective.

Claremont is obvious, but what immediately followed is just as beloved - big events and a high pop culture profile - all maintained until the animated series ended roughly when OZT was done and Lobdell had left. That will be where I stop reading all the X-books and get more picky.

Been thinking about this for my own (very gradual) X-Men retrospective reading. At the very least - I would say the Core X-Men reading period - for all X-books - is 1975-1997. Claremont and the Post-Claremont animated series era. It’s all a bit pick-and-choose after that.

I think a lot about when long-running comics are basically "finished" even though they can run for decades afterward. They can be revived if someone comes along with a new twist, but the comic as conceived originally is over (I'd argue that Spider-Man ended decades ago).

X-Men ended with HoXPoX

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

Caught PERFECT BLUE for the first time with the 4K re-release at my local indie. Nearly 30 years on and that film knew exactly where the Internet would go.

Farewell to a King. Drew Struzan is as iconic to Gen X kids as any band or film star. And it wasn't just movies - one of his earlier pieces was this classic from Black Sabbath:

a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

they just can’t conceive that ordinary people find them horrifying

I know it’s the most obvious thing in the world but it’s really sad that so many people have absolutely no desires or dreams in life except to accumulate money and our entire world is becoming a fucking pit because of it

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

I’m sorry fuck the Elon Musk bit: that’s varnish.

Tommy had a bag with thirteen grand in fucking cash in it.

THIRTEEN GRAND.

Remove Tommy from the conversation & you have a convicted criminal in a silver Bentley crossing the channel with a big bag of cash.

Of course it’s fuckin suspicious
The activist had arrived alone at the Channel Tunnel in a silver Bentley belonging to a friend and was on his way to the Spanish resort of Benidorm with more than £13,000 in a small bag, the first day of the trial at Westminster magistrates court heard.
The money was said to have been from a collection to offset the expenses from organising a major rally of Robinson's supporters that took place the day before in Trafalgar Square. Robinson told police he was white English but was travelling on an Irish passport he had recently obtained and that he lived in Spain.

Yup - saw that. An extra filter and Frogger is laughing.

No Kings AND Halloween this month? Great for convenience and capitalism.

Haven’t seen anyone make the observation yet that it’s a bit more tricky to arrest someone in an inflatable costume.

Plus - as well as safety issues, I believe there would be constitutional barriers for cops etc quickly deflating them in the US.

The arguments for sacking off live shows by established bands and sticking to small grass roots venues are accelerating. At some point - the public will collectively conclude that the costs for gigs of this size are no longer worth it.

Sold 2 Radiohead tickets on the official resale process. Couldn't charge more than face-value (£214 each), which is great.

What's not great is AXS has charged a £321 "Sellers Connection Fee".

That's some absolute bullshit.

I would like to just take a moment to invite you to enjoy Cake's 1996 mega-hit 'The Distance'.

It's likely that you know this song, perhaps even love it. But just take a moment to revel in the utter masterpiece that it is.

Surrender yourself to it.

You deserve it.
