Fafnir and Hien find planning a wedding is not easy when you're the Emperor of Doma and the Warrior of Light.

"And of course, we will have a band performing music from across Eorzea — though fear not, Emperor, the musical talents of Doma will be primarily on display. We shall not squander the chance to show the rest of the star that we are strong and must be taken seriously," an advisors said. Hien nodded sagely. Fafnir mirrored the movement, a chocobo feather behind in tempo. "That sounds quite wise. What plans have been made for when the musicians are resting?" Hien asked. "Resting?" Hien looked at Fafnir, who blinked back at him. They looked vaguely dazed. Hien was on his own for this. "Aye. You cannot believe that they can perform for the entire ceremony and reception," he remarked. "'twould be at least six hours of play, if not more!" "Emperor Hien, Lord Consort—" A voice from across the hall shouted. The owner of the words quickly manifested in front of Fafnir and Hien. He was one of the many assistants for the wedding. "Have you had a chance to review the options for fabrics?" Again, Hien glanced at Fafnir. Their expression had not changed. "Er, not yet. We were discussing the musical accompaniment—" "Once that is complete, you must decide what tableclothes you wish to use. If I may, the translucent red silk atop thicker white cotton would be esquisite." Hien felt his smile grow more and more forced. "We shall keep your opinion in mind." Before he could return focus to the prior conversation, yet another person appeared, then another, and another, until Hien and Fafnir were swarmed by no fewer than a dozen chattering voices all eliciting their opinion on matters that Hien didn't even realize one could have an opinion on. Hien jumped when he felt something touch the small of his back. He realized a moment later that it was Fafnir's tail, the long appendage seeking to ground him. (Continued in next image) (Continued from last image) But no — Fafnir was stone-faced, but their eyes had a distance that Hien had come to associate with distress. They were breathing shallowly. Their hands kept searching for the weight of a blade. Fafnir Chulainn, Warrior of Light, was unwell. - "Pray, let me consult with my spouse," Hien said loudly and firmly. He held one hand up to emphasize his request. The other found its place on Fafnir's bicep. Then steadily, if with an air of regal authority, Hien steered Fafnir out of the large banquet hall and into a nearby office. It was occupied, but Hien had just to look at the secretary and suddenly she realized it was time for a tea break. Then, finally, they were alone. Hien let out the longest sigh of his life. "Kami, if I ever suggest having a wedding again, cart me off to the Steppe so Cirina can see if I've had another near death experience," he mumbled. He took bothof Fafnir's hands in his and squeezed them gently. "Are you alright?" Fafnir blinked slowly. Their eyes came back into focus, that brilliant red meeting Hien's gaze. "Better." "Good." Hien leaned up to kiss Fafnir's jaw. The scales shone in the sunlight that poured in through the window. The window. "These open, you know," Hien said, looking at the hinge that kept the glass closed. Fafnir raised an eyebrow at him. "Even you could fit, if you're careful with your tail." Fafnir chuffed. "Should the Emperor of Doma not sneak around his own home?" "The Emperor of Doma may do as he wishes," Hien retorted. "Now, hurry. Before someone finds us and asks about the cutlery."

I want to write more Fafnir again. They're really hard to write because of how stoic they are, but there's still so much I haven't explored yet.

I also have a longer fic planned out for Kiah'a where I finally go over all his scars and how he got them, which will be a doozy but so worthwhile.
