Aaron Dixon 1d•O ... It was not easy to be a member of the BPP. A lot was asked of its members.You were required to memorize the 10 point program and read 2 hrs daily including reading the Bpp news paper before going out to sell your required 100 news papers a day. You were required to understand the revolutionary principles of the party you had to read the redbook and understand it. And work in the various programs you were assigned to. Sometimes you were sent away to work in different chapters without much notice and to learn about weapon and how to use them. Yes people were often expelled for violating rules and principles.i had to personally expelled someone that i was close to we still remained good friends. After the Bpp went out of existence many groups attempted to name there organization and groups after the BPP.. Some of these groups that approached me I ask them to come up with there own names which they did. Like Open in New Jersy and the Elephant party in Tacoma Washington. Aaron Dixon 1d • & • • • dull vastlylun. When I was contacted by Paul Birdsong he was already using the BPP name.which he said was part of a Bpp group from LA under the leadership of some OG Panthers So I agreed to advise him and he brought me to Philly .He exhibited a lot of dedication to the people with weekly food programs and weekly barbecues as well as adressing Police brutality issues. I also connected him with a original Philly panther to also give him guidance. When I left Philly I was impressed with his discipline and his dedication. Shortly after that he began to get a lot of social media exposure. I had also got a original panther from Chicago to advise him. We were both impressed by him. However we noticed that his usage of the word I was more prominent that the word we when talking about his work. And he was often using profanity in his confrontations with the police in front of the people who had gathered. At one point he said all power to the mothafuckin people which is something we never would have said. We never used profanity in front of the people... did notice his ego was getting bigger and he was posting more videos of himself. So myself and a New York veteran panther and my Chicago comrade decided to call him out on the carpet we met for 2 hrs addressing our concerns.. Us elders got together and came to the conclusion that we can no longer allow groups to call themselves The Black Panther Party.in any form. By groups using that name the expectations are to high and through social media it becomes to performative. And they give themselves titles like Chairman or minister of defense, that and the uniforms creates something more performative than substance. In 1969 we were ordered to stop wearing the panther uniform as well as getting rid of the titles which were replaced by coordinaters. We also decided since he violated our trust we would have break to ties with him.there was just to much flack coming are way .i had also asked him to stop posting things on social media something he just could do as evident in the last video he posted It's never easy to separate from something or someone that you have invested your time in i am sad that it had to come to this but he left us no alternative. I do hope that his organization will flourish and rise to the occasion. Only time will tell. We are in a time where we need unity just as we were 50 years ago.It is the most important thing but not the only thing. It's about doing what we have to do to make change, that idea of unity really is just a idea a notion. But history teaches us that it is the people that are the determining factor for change whether we are totally united or not. There will be somethings that we can unite on but not all things will we be united on. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE and we will whether this storm we are currently in. We just must remember one thing keep loving forward.
