From Republic of Yarnia: Merry Christmas, happy holidays, season’s greetings and yes, Happy Festivus for the rest of us. ✨

Thank you for sharing your time, creativity, and warmth this year. May your days over this season be cozy, your stitches steady, and the new year gentle and bright. 🧶💛

Now that this has been gifted I can share it😊This was a fun knit, & was kinda magical watching the variegation coalesce&swirl in the opposite direction of the knit pattern. Hoping that I did the Red Theban & @isasaxonists.bsky.social proud with their yarn!

The challenge in the tale is never abt violence; it's abt whether one can live truthfully across time, & keep their word when a moment of reckoning arrives.

As we stand at the edge of a new yr, may we face the unknown w/ courage and creativity. Happy holidays.

Pssst. This is your sneak peek of January's #yarnclub colorway. It's a wintery blend on a merino/bamboo base.

The figure of inspiration is from an 11thc image of dark-skinned David in motion just abt ready to beat Goliath. That's how we're gonna enter the new yr.

Stay tuned for more info/pics! 🧶

And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

Sometimes lighter colors get overshadowed by intense ones but every once in a while someone will hear a subtle colorway calling. This order in seafarers' sand is inspired by a striking historical image of a Black traveler in Japan in the 1600s, a reminder of intertwined histories. 🧶

As we mourn Rob Reiner, don’t skip this: he was, pretty much, personally responsible for overturning California’s Prop 8 banning same sex marriage.

Our market got cancelled tomorrow (😭) so we have a bunch of these left now!

They're beautiful! You can learn about animals!

So many people in the last 2 weekends have said "Oh we should get this for your mom", and then they get one for the other person's mom. Just sayin'

Hey, what are you gonna get for the office secret Santa?
For your mother in law who loves her bird feeder?
For your niece who loves whales?
For your dad who literally has no hobbies and you’re like “shit wtf do I get this guy”?

We've tried substituting easily half a dozen different things in that equation for the medium, and it has never, not *once*, worked to address the problem. Because the problem is not the medium, the problem is that we don't treat teens like human beings with human needs and human problems.

Every decade or so we decide to suddenly pretend to care about the emotional wellbeing of teens again, blame a new medium for carrying the exact same messages teens have been using forever to hurt each other, act tough for a few years, and then make the surprised pikachu face when nothing changes!

Every danger people blame on "social media" is actually a societal issue or a danger that comes from other people who could be creating that danger anywhere. It's like blaming the air for transmitting the sound waves of something upsetting someone said.

It's clear from the article that ICE is *miserable* here. They're freezing their asses off and being harassed everywhere they go. Property managers aren't allowing them access to rental properties and people know their rights and aren't letting them in.

KEEP IT UP.

Whether it becomes a cowl, mitts, a hat, or something entirely your own, it brings a little medieval magic and a reminder that joy, like marginalia, can be found in the corners, if we let it.

May your winter be warm, whimsical, and full of unexpected beauty.🧶

But like so many marginalia figures, its lightheartedness hides something meaningful: the quiet reminder that joy, imagination, & absurdity have always been part of human history.

Even in the 14thc, during hardship, cold winters, & deep faith, artists still carved out space for wonder.
