I'm not sure you can get more marie antoinette than taking away food stamps before thanksgiving while you build a gold and marble dance hall so the other crooks can bring bribe you over a badly-cooked (argentinian) steak

I find it amazing too that Republicans’ boycott of Washington isn’t the biggest story of them all.

The shutdown can’t end if they refuse to show up for work.

the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

The 14th Amendment was adopted after the Civil War to protect the rights of Black Americans. An argument being made at the Supreme Court invites a return to the era when race was a barrier to entry for political representation. bit.ly/4qeZmz4

the crowd sizes are obviously the highlight here but the fact that *this* is the public statement of the NYPD does not bode well for the regime. or, put another way:

I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win
ZERO arrests at No Kings in NYC. (And the NYPD isn’t notorious for being sympathetic with people anti-Trump.)

This proves what shameless liars Speaker Mike Johnson & Karoline Leavitt are to slander the participants as violent anarchists.

Amazing that “No kings and no Nazis” is suddenly a controversial slogan and up for debate in 2025. These are the two most basic creeds of American history.
My sister — about to turn 72 — did her very first solo protest today as part of #NoKings. She made her own two-sided sign using my foamcore stock and thick rainbow Sharpies, and bought a yellow sweater vest from a local thrift shop. I’m very proud.

These are the only sentences which should be said over and over again to the SCt

“The Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments were expressly crafted to grant Black people equal rights as citizens in a democratic society. The Court is preparing to use those very Amendments to deny those rights instead.”
Callais is the conservative legal movement’s latest vehicle to persuade the Court to do away with the greatest triumph of the Civil Rights Movement.

My participation in the #FairMaps rally at SCOTUS on Wednesday got documented on the local NBC News 4 broadcast tonight! Guess the cameraman liked my sign …

Mike Johnson called us back from July 4 recess on 7/3 so he could gut Americans’ healthcare in the Big Ugly bill. Since then, he has only had the House in session for 19 of the subsequent 104 days. That’s how we ended up here.
I was part of the large peaceful protest at SCOTUS this morning before and during the arguments on the Louisiana voting rights case. #FairMaps

Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

Very straightforwardly detained by secret police for speech. I honestly don't know what establishment figures are telling themselves any more to avoid cognitive dissonance over this shit.
ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility.

He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.
Hey — that’s me with the Fair Maps sign! The flip side faced front …
I’m on my way right now to participate in the #FairMaps protest at SCOTUS this morning. My sign reads, “VOTING RIGHTS are for PEOPLE, NOT PARTIES” with “FAIR MAPS” on the other side.
The Trump administration was always going to keep firing feds no matter what happened with the shutdown showdown.

The most frustrating part of this is that a federal judge literally made a finding of fact of the evidence presented by the administration, a judge appointed by Trump, and that judge called the narrative untethered to facts, and the narrator, unreliable.

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.
Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.
