Final: Dodgers 2, Brewers 1

After Blake Snell delivered one of the most dominant playoff pitching performances you'll see, the Brewers threatened against Roki Sasaki but leave the bases loaded. Turang strikes out after bailing on a slider inside. An agonizing finish.

The series: Dodgers lead, 1-0

I would’ve let that pitch hit me at 95 mph (not because I’m brave or stoic but bc I would not have been athletic enough to get out of the way that quickly)

So many fluky things go into the outcome of a baseball game. Just in the bottom of the 9th inning, the double going over the wall and Turang successfully flinching his back knee: if either of those doesn't happen the game maybe goes the other way.

This is not even a well-kept secret. A current NYPD chief praised Mamdani’s stance on mental health without endorsement; a forner chief, now working on Long Island, did endorse him for wanting what police have always wanted - to catch crooks and let others be social workers, babysitters, etc.

Nobody wants it as a story but I have multiple NYPD sources who voted for Mamdani, are eager for his win in November, and who say their colleagues quietly feel the same.

They like that he wants NYPD to focus on crime, not quality of life enforcement.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
benkannenberg.bsky.social
Yeah. Not to mention the grand slam robbery double play being the difference between a Dodgers or a Brewers win. It would have felt perfectly scripted

The good news is that once Snell was out, Brewers offense was back online, and it was enough to get us within an inch of victory. We're still in this.
benkannenberg.bsky.social
God. That flinch away from the ball was the difference maker.

Bryce turang could do the funniest thing possible here

Snell was in our heads. Brewers look alive again with him out of here

Here comes Blake Treinen with the tying run on third and winning run on first. Bill Contreras is up.

This is good. Whether we capitalize here or not, it's good news that once Snell was pulled out we found our rhythm again.

I believe in the Joey Ortiz walk-off

Have we talked about how stupid the Dodgers' little dances are that they do after they get a hit?

Over his last two playoff starts, Blake Snell has thrown 14 innings, allowed two hits and struck out 19. He made the Phillies (eighth in MLB in runs scored) and Brewers (third) look positively feckless. When Snell is on, there are few better. A tremendous performance in Game 1.

Blake Snell has faced the minimum through 7. To say the Brewers offense has zero chance against him would be overstating it.

This is the first 8-6-2 (or 8-6-2-2) double play in the playoffs over at least the last 35 postseasons

The last time there was a play like this in the regular season was by the Reds on April 16, 2004 (8-6-2). CF: Ken Griffey Jr. Batter: Sammy Sosa

What Blake Snell is doing to this offense is illegal in 32 states.

Freddie Freeman hit only the third home run in Miller Park/AmFam Field history with a launch angle of 45 degrees or higher.

Well, there's only so much you can do when a guy like Snell is at his best

In answer to your questions ...

No, I've never seen that before.
No, it didn't happen because I will Strange But True madness to happen.
Yes, we just saw a "grounded into double play" on a ball that looked like a possible slam over the CF wall.
And the catcher recorded both forceouts.

Baseball!

We hear constantly from people in Wisconsin and Massachusetts about what a good kid Frelick is. He comes from good people. Jesuit-educated.

And a gem of a man. Here he is with my nephew earlier this summer, at the children’s hospital in Milwaukee. Kiddo had successful heart surgery two days later and Frelick homered that night.

Meanwhile, Blake Snell is unbothered by it all. He's faced the minimum through four. Just in total carve mode of this Brewers lineup.
