I don't think folks understand how incessantly biomedical research institutions are propagandizing the use of LLMs. The propaganda language is a heady mix of pseudo-technical buzz-terms and alluring productivity promises. The structural (non-remediable) limitations and dangers are never articulated.

The screenshot dunking is so unnecessary in this instance. People told her why it's wrong and she understood. She's not a computer scientist, she's not a petulant young whipper snapper trying to be unethical on purpose. Sending the hounds on her like that is ghoulish.

Heidegger, Pound, Webern, Jung all supported the Nazis.

fascism is a moral error, not an intellectual one. being educated isn't a prophylactic.

Most of these people are deeply trained, or at least highly educated, in humanities. Knowing isn’t being.

Anyone who claims that Silicon Valley would be better with more humanities education has to grapple with the fact that Peter Thiel was a philosophy major.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

The first reports of what would eventually be called AIDS and its causative agent identified as HIV were published in the MMWR in 1981 alerting health care and public health systems across the country. A tremendous loss for public health.

The tech feudalists believe in eugenics. They believe we need mass depopulation events to save the planet. They forget to mention they monetized the depopulation for personal profit, which means they aren’t protecting humanity, they are profiting from its demise

FRIDAY NIGHT MASSACRE: Late Friday, the Trump admin laid off dozens of CDC staff — from outbreak “disease detectives” to chronic disease scientists — even shuttering the team behind the famed MMWR. Public health just took a major hit. #BlueSky #MedSky #EMSky #NurseSky #PedsSky #SciSky #IDSky

I find this so interesting given the demographics of male circumcision in this country. There are basically 2 unconnected groups of men who are most likely to be uncircumcised in 2025. RFK is in one of them 😏

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

First Trump deployed the National Guard in DC. Then he turned his sights to Portland and Memphis. Now it's Chicago.

Using the military against its own people is not normal.

We're not teetering into authoritarianism.

We're living in it right now.

“We don’t have to approach and criticize this album as art, because it isn’t art. The Life of a Showgirl is made of Shein quality rip-offs of other people’s songs that are constructed shoddily and sold in ginormous quantities. Art takes time and care. This is profit. It’s content.”

WHEW.

If you go back to the 1950s, there were earnest debates around the world re: whether growing public funding of universities was a Good Thing because government might one day try to dictate what univesities could teach.

By the 90s this was considered laughable.

No one is laughing now.

Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.
