Wow! I have many new folks, so let's start fresh. Hello! I'm Beverly. I'm from Tampa, Florida, but I've lived in the Toronto area ≈15 yrs. I'm a publicist, mostly for authors, and I live w/ my husband, two tiny dogs and two normal size cats. Nice to meet you! Feel free to introduce yourself too :)
Holy shit. This is amazing.
A coworker took this from her apartment. I haven't seen a crowd this size before. Maybe the first Women's March? But it was much much warmer that day. ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA!

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

A stunning and record breaking 16 Oscar nominations for Sinners! Hugely deserved - hope it goes on to sweep the board.

That said, I'd be delighted if Emma Stone picks up the Best Actress gong for Bugonia and Amy Madigan Supporting actress for Weapons.

Yeah every time people are like "but it's not right to be mean to Americans who didn't vote for this" I'm like there is a lot of shit here that is not right and that one's pretty mild considering.

Reading another psychology/human behavior book talking about the Milgram experiment and thought about what might happen now if universities were still allowed to conduct those studies and then realized that is effectively exactly what social media does. It's one big Milgram experiment.

We're going to need a denazification program for the federal government when this is over. It's that simple, and that stark.
A prerequisite to competing in, and winning fair elections is that you need political freedom and basic human rights. How could a party not, when they get power, dismantle a secret police force dedicated to imprisoning and killing them?

Last year, certainly the first half was a washout for me, but after getting proper psychiatric help, I am back with a reviewing vengeance.

And GNoH needs more reviewers. If you'd like to volunteer your services, please drop me an email (jimmcleod(at)gnofhorror.com)

Those of you who know my history know that I'm not about silence that protects toxic and abusive people in publishing. I support the people affected by this, 100 percent.
Emily Bell, Atthis Arts. That's who I am talking about.

I'm done.

I posted this and two minutes later she blocked me.

It's been a year of this. I'm fucking done.
I'm stuck in a moral quandary.

At what point is my silence protecting a questionable person because of my fear of punching down? At what point does it matter if I have personal experience, or just eyes?

I don't have a problem being a bull. I just don't want to be a bully.

It's weird, but I suppose not surprising, that the number of "nothing works, give up," Eeyores has exploded on Bluesky — just as we're responding to an incident that has every hallmark of a tide turner.

That seems counterintuitive. Shouldn't people be energized? Well, that's why. Bear with me....

Good thread for today's world
Watching doc about resilience that reaffirms many changes I made last few years to my mental outlook (I read a LOT of brain books). Brains are hallucination engines. If the story is the world is shit, everything is fucked, brain reframes every interaction this way. It impacts behavior; shuts us down

Now that i have Pixinsight, I redid my M 57 (Ring Nebula) which was the first thing I ever photographed with my astrocam. It's looking good! I'll have to try to do this one with my 8" SCT too when that's ready to go. #astrophotography
