Hey - if you’re in Houston, come on over to Midtown Bar and Grill - DJ Illuminator is doing his thing until about midnight! Tunes, lights, karaoke, all that!

I thought Tron: Legacy was good (okay, for certain values of "good", but I loved it), and thought it was a proper successor to the original - weird fun with some metaphysical themes - and most of its flaws were flaws, expressed in the same ways, in the original as well.

New one, though? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what the fuck do you MEAN you can evolve eevee into jolteon in gen 1 by getting into a trainer battle, levelling eevee up, switching to growlithe, and finishing the battle with growlithe, because growlithe's pokemon index is the same as thunder stone's item index. WHAT. WHATTT

Watching dressage all day, the only sport where at least once an hour an athlete will fully take a shit during their routine and it's just nbd.

But yeah, 1991-2014 was my run there. We survived the one-two punch of that embezzlement thing and THEN Enron's collapse, with them owing the store several thousand bucks…

and then boom.
bibulb.com
Hit me up sometime and I will TELL SOME STORIES.

I am still incredibly pissed, just from a standpoint of "we were one of the only technical bookstores in the nation," and he/they just pissed it all away.

(Plus, you know, the whole "dude owes me beaucoup money" thing too.)
bibulb.com
Same basic levels of ethics as Weiss/Musk is what I'm saying.

(NGL, I hold this guy in precisely the same regard as I do the guy who embezzled almost a million dollars from the store over a couple of years around the turn of the millennium, and for much the same reasons.)
bibulb.com
Right now, dude still owes me several thousand dollars, his (all unrelated, no really, no financial connection to get money from nope no way) companies have been sub-penny-stock pump-and-dump bait, at least when they HAVEN'T been completely insolvent as they are now.
bibulb.com
Long story VERY short: dude took over as manager, fucked shit up and drove it down to a point that his company then offered "well, WE can buy it off you" (where "you" includes me) (at which point *I* was infuriated enough to quit), and then submarined the store within five years.
bibulb.com
Dude did substantially the same thing, asking each person "what's YOUR job here?", without EVER actually grokking what the big picture of how the store (or any given bookstore, let alone a specialty store like ours) worked.
bibulb.com
And I'm gonna reskeet this as well, because in addition to the previously stated obvious analogy, it reminds me of what happened at the beginning when the "consultant" came in to Brown Book Shop to "analyze the shop's business to keep the business solvent".

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

The Mailbox That Spits Bones At People
A four panel comic strip
A mailbox stands by a bush, the door open, drippy text says "the mailbox that spits bones at people"

in the second panel there is a bone in the mailbox.

In the third panel several bones are shooting out of it.

In the fourth panel bones are flying everywhere and there's a big pile of bones on the ground. More drippy text says "That's all it does!"

Moving away from the religious drama and into personal identity would be interesting, and could REALLY go somewhere with things like the appearance of the ISOs.

(Yes, I thought Tron: Legacy was a good movie.)
