THIS! We bought a house in the Metrowest suburbs because we couldn't afford to keep renting (let alone buy a condo) in Cambridge after a decade of living there. Arlington, Medford, Belmont? Nope. We could've afforded Waltham if we'd had an extra $25k to renovate and make a dump livable. We didn't.
