When the NYT published that story 10 or 12 years ago about Amazon drivers pissing in bottles to make their quotas and not get fired (and, like, firing corporate staffers who had cancer) I was confronted by a bunch of my "moderate" friends who insisted that "shareholder value" was paramount.

My hometown has a bridge built in 1954. Price was 50 cents my whole life. Then in 2022 some private bridge operator bought it, "renovated" it with license plate scanning cameras, and jacked the price up to $4.50 and now they're running ads to get people to use it bc wtf
