The person to watch is David Rubenstein, who has poured millions in philanthropy into the Kennedy Center, is not going to be pleased about this, and has money, ego, and patriotism long enough to sustain a long-ass legal battle.

Particularly since his cash isn't crypto.
Trump: "I have determined that the fastest way to bring The Trump Kennedy Center to the highest level of Success, Beauty, and Grandeur, is to cease Entertainment Operations for an approximately two year period of time, with a scheduled Grand Reopening that will rival and surpass anything."

I am once again begging everyone to remember, once the WGA and SAG-AFTRA contract negotiations begin, that *this* is how the trades we rely on operate
In case you ever needed proof that the mainstream media is a complicit arm of propaganda for a fascist regime and deserves no credibility or respect.

Not framing a reported $75m movie making $7m as a flop, but as a triumph and a record breaker. In a headline-over-article world, this matters.

As Black History Month begins, we honor the generations of Black New Yorkers who built this city into the “gorgeous mosaic” we call home.

Today, we reflect on the words of Mayor David Dinkins: our city’s first Black mayor (and a democratic socialist!).

Nice to see lots of colleagues quoted, but notable that almost all are talking about teaching at large universities, where it's always been tough to get most of huge classes to engage. In my experience, most of my smaller classes will effectively watch films, but it does a bit of teaching how.
On a trend us film professors have seen. Free link to “The Film Students Who Can No Longer Sit Through Films” from THE ATLANTIC yesterday.

Former Texas Lege reporter here. A Dem hasn't held this seat since 1990. Tarrant is the safest of red suburban counties. There is no way the TX and national GOP aren't in panic mode right now.
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

A lovely woman I know told me the other day that since Avelo stopped flying for ICE, "We did it! We ended ICE Air!" Had to tell her Avelo was only about 15% of it.

Still going: Global X, Eastern Air, Journey, Key Lime/Denver Air, and Omni Air International ⤵️

Because I'm talking about measles. It is also A VERY VERY VERY CONTAGIOUS VIRUS. If someone is in a room and has measles and then leaves that room and you enter that room within TWO HOURS (depending on humidity) you can get measles.

And people are contagious for four days before the rash appears.
::taps mic::

beyond being an absolutely miserable illness, measles can cause immune amnesia. It wipes out your immune systems memory of how to fight every infection, every vaccine you've ever had.

Cruelty to children is the centerpiece of Trump policy. Children all across the country are being arrested and detained... at airports, at the border, at immigration courts, at immigration check-in appointments, on their way to and from schools, at parks, on the street and anywhere else

In my mind, I wanted these files released because

1. don’t care about the partisan affiliation of these monsters
2. Wanted justice for the girls
3. Hoped that this would stop the government from enabling crimes by the very rich.
4. Perhaps create another cultural swing away from misogyny.

So the Epstein files dump

1. Protected a lot of predictors

2. Created another partisan food fight.

3. Failed to create any obvious pathway for these women to get accountability.

4. Included a number of clearly unverified claims that can be used to undermine the very legit emails

Imo people have the right to defend themselves, nonviolent protest is not so much the highest ideal as a *model* of protest.

It has proven a very effective form of protest in modern US history, but it hinges on a public outrage that may be blunted now by disinformation and fascist creep.

And just to further put a point on it, this is very explicitly the point of militant nonviolent protest.

To demonstrate incontrovertibly to even the low info news consumer that agents of the oppressor are engaging in an entirely one-sided brutality against the vulnerable
So believe me I understand this is deeply frustrating and unfair, but a march that does everything right and still gets tear gassed is a successful march that is winning.

A lot of the strategy of protest is luring the authorities into engaging in obviously, transparently unjust uses of force.
It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.

Rehmet is a union president, and this was an unapologetically pro labor campaign.
