In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, the characters are deathly allergic to wearing inappropriate clothing. If Mario and Luigi are made to wear Bowser's clothes or vice versa, all their stats drop to 0. It is unknown if this is merely a code quirk or an intentional failsafe.

A good magical-realism/horror premise would be if you're writing a story about a horribly corrupt U.S. President and about 1/4 of the way through the story every person around them starts dropping dead, one by one, for no apparent reason at all, as if the king's moral rot is poisoning reality itself
