“Respect is a two-way street!”

RESPECT is my driver on the Green rolling his eyes at me when I changed my mind after everyone else was boarded and asked for the door because my 18 had not yet begun to move from layover 5 minutes after it was due and I was sick of waiting.

The IN GOP is too cowardly to just say they reached the zenith of gerrymandering & further map meddling basically guarantees losing the like whole state to the Dems if the wind should blow in even a slightly different direction for just like a long afternoon but I'm not! I'm not cowardly at all!

This article also describes the violent threats that Republican legislators faced over this, and they voted against Trump anyway
🚨 Indiana Senate rejects a redistricting push to expand GOP power in the House, a major defeat for Trump who relentlessly pressured state Republicans to do it. Also a defeat for Mike Johnson who pushed for this. www.nbcnews.com/politics/ele...

I don't even understand the question. Hospital chains are much smaller contributors to the healthcare system than universities that already receive huge sums from the US government, and the Catholic Church. The second-largest hospital system by bed count is the VA.
For all Universal HC/Single Payer/M4A advocates.

What do the biggest, expensive hospital chains do. Do they opt out and only serve the rich ?

Who in the USA gov runs the program?

R U ok with having to see a primary care doc before you can see a specialist ?

Here's where that quote that the GOP is pushing came from: yesterday's Ezra Klein podcast. Newsom brought it up unprompted. Doesn't really say what he believes, but seemed to want to get on the record as slightly less antagonistic to trans people.

Now that the GOP is attacking him as being too pro trans, Newsom is pushing back. Hmm.

I know that at least one guy was saying his constituents are against this, and I'm guessing that most constituents anywhere accept Yglesias-Thought and don't read the empirical polisci literature.

So that does seem like a principled stand.

But for the GOP, it's also the self-preserving right one.

At this point, with things so heavily gerrymandered as they are, any new gerrymander works by turning dark red areas pink into order to turn the blue areas pink as well, right?

If I were the IN GOP, I'd want to keep my dark red areas dark red right now.

There are two takes to this, though, right?

1. Telling Trump to go to hell.

2. Actually doing the math that Trump refuses to, and realizing that (even more of) a gerrymander + a blue wave is worse *for the GOP* than the current gerrymander + a blue wave.
The Dems voted 10–0 against the gerrymander, and the Republicans voted against it 21–19.

A majority of the Republican members of the Indiana State Senate just told Trump to go fuck himself.
The Indiana State Senate is 40 Republicans, 10 Democrats. This result is not even close to nothing.

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!
