When cops kill, police agencies often mislead, exonerate too quickly, smear the deceased, use the exonerative tense, etc.

But there's at least usually some solemnity -- acknowledgement that the loss of life is regrettable.

Army vet George Retes Jr. was trying to get to work on July 10 at Glass House during an ICE raid. He was handcuffed and jailed for 3 days without explanation. After he wrote about his arrest, DHS accused him of assault, which he called a baffling accusation.

Even in the most charitable interpretation, giving up Minneapolis’s prerogative to investigate the homicide seems to expose a misunderstanding of the dynamics of the situation.
Minneapolis Chief Brian O'Hara confirms that the FBI is in charge of the investigation. He says MPD role is maintain the security of the crime scene.
