I watched Tron with my son when he was quite young. He absolutely loved it. He had no idea what exactly was going on, but he really loved it. When he was older, not so much.

If they want to exploit the Tron IP, they should introduce another animated series.
charliejane.bsky.social
Tron is such an 80s thing, it's hard to make relevant for the 21st century. It's all about arcade games and mainframes, and software that was written primarily by a single coder. The actual story of Tron is silly AF, which is one of its main joys.

But it should never have been revived.

People just don't realize how many layers of "irony" and cloaking are used to launder white supremacist propaganda into greater public acceptance and just *how many* things, about US culture in general and internet culture in particular, have white supremacy at the core of their rotten heart!

I wish I was surprised that Deadline claims it asked questions that were actually asked by me and other journalists at this James Gunn press conference. No one from Deadline even *submitted questions* for it (and I know, because I moderated). This is just brazen and sad.

People keep saying "Top 10! What does Amazon want?".

But top ten only means there's interest in this type of show. If people flood the first three eps then quit, that adds up to lots of viewers and a good reason to cancel.

FTR, Coundown wanted to be big fun but missed. Butterfly lacked something.

Amazon Prime Video has canceled "Countdown" and "Butterfly" after one season each.

Both series appeared on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming originals chart.

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

Weird random meme-y shit (laudatory) like this is how it might eventually be called The Great Frog Resistance, where everyone wears a frog pin, & remembrance events in 50 years begin with reverent croaks. Just from some dude's choice of a frog for a costume. Humans are weird.

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

TBH, I'd never drop ice cubes onto hot cast iron, but I'd be tempted to try something less direct.
jamellebouie.net
for my sourdough loaves, i use a cast iron bread oven that you heat up at 450 degrees for an hour before baking. put the loaf in with a couple ice cubes, bake covered, for 20 minutes, remove the cover and bake for 30 more minutes and i consistently get a crunchy, flavorful crust with a great spring

Don’t you need a special oven to make really good bread?

Federal agents aren’t trying to keep the peace. They want violence to escalate so that Trump can declare martial law.

They shot a reverend in the head with pepper balls while he was praying in front of an ICE facility. If that doesn’t tell you where we are as a country, nothing will.

Farm bankruptcies are back in the news, so it's time to pull this chart out again.

Hey look they kept rising during Trump's first term. Then they went way down under Biden.

Now they're up again? So weird. Thanks Farm Bureau for the graphic
Screenshot from Farm Bureau article on farm bankruptcies. It shows farm bankruptcies climbing steadily 2014-2020, falling by half in 2021, & continuing to fall through 2023.

The House Majority Whip is also insisting that a peaceful "No Kings" demonstration is in fact a "hate America rally" held for the "terrorist wing" of the Democratic Party.

Really feels like they're trying to manifest a violent reaction to it.

They make up lies about paid agitators doing violence, and attach them to the name of a prominent Jewish person. This is antisemitism, and it infects every part of the GOP.

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

The Criminalizing Homelessness Cycle

There's a blog post about this #PoliCartoon at www.patreon.com/posts/115113....

Doing cartoons like this takes a lot of time - and I can do it because of all the super cool people supporting the work at patreon.com/barry.
TRANSCRIPT OF CARTOON

This cartoon has four panels, arranged so that they can be read in a clockwise circle. Each panel shows the same character - a homeless man wearing jeans, a hoodie, and a knit cap. I'll call him "Knit."

TOP PANEL

Knit is lying on a park bench, looking like he just woke up, and with a confused expression on his face. A cop holding a billy club stands over him.

COP: Get up! Public sleeping is now a crime. You're going to jail.

An arrow leads from that panel to:

RIGHT HAND PANEL

Knit, looking confused and unhappy, is being kicked out of a building that has a sign over the door: "JAIL." Knit looks confused and unhappy. We don't see anything of the person kicking Knit out except for the shoe and leg that are doing the kicking.

KICKING GUY: You've served your time. Get out!

An arrow leads from that panel to:

BOTTOM PANEL

Knit, with a disappointed expression, is listening to a businessman-looking type wearing a necktie talk. The businessman has a stern expression.

BUSINESSMAN: You've been in jail! I'd never hire you, or rent to you.

An arrow leads from that panel to:

LEFT HAND PANEL

It's dark out; the only light is coming from a door which has been open a crack. Knit stands in front of the door. A sign above the door says "SHELTER." A woman inside is speaking to Knit through the crack.

WOMAN: Sorry, out of beds. Good luck.

An arrow leads from that panel back to the TOP PANEL.

At this point, there's a compelling argument to be made that we should tax billionaires out of existence for their own good. All that wealth has isolated them and curdled their minds.

Take their money and make them live in the real world. It'd be good for them AND us.
