Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.
If you can't see the clear religious parallels, it's just because you lack Thiel's scalpel-sharp media analysis.
I'm a simple man. I see a Silent Hill Wiki Circumcision Meltdown reference, I repost it. Easy as that.
The medical journal where RFK learned that circumcision causes autism.

So since I'm annoyed let me say a few things today. Some folks have been writing about Christian Nationalism and apocalyptic right wing movements for YEARS here in the US. YEARS. Do we get to have a platform in major mags and newspapers... rarely.

Is the irony of the president’s friend buying something called “the free press” and immediately installing a government truth compliance officer lost on everybody?
Breaking News: Paramount is buying The Free Press for $150 million and appointing Bari Weiss, the news site's co-founder, as the editor in chief of CBS News. nyti.ms/4gUnu5D

history teacher in 50 years: So in September, that’s when the president signed an executive order criminalizing anti-fascism and saying all resistance would be crushed

student: oh so that’s when the whole country realized they were living under fascism

teacher: haha what? oh no lol not at all. no.
Imbuing your opponent with the spiritual power of a suffering saint is a choice.

If you’re an Islamophobe you don’t get to complain about antisemitism

And if you’re an antisemite you don’t get to complain about Islamophobia.

It’s really that simple.

(So many shameless hypocrites around.)

I'm sorry: "if I wish to see a virgin on-screen"?
I had no idea, and this could be extremely helpful for both paying work and hobbyist work. Always wanted to dabble in JSTOR!
Didn’t know this! Do you know how many years I pined for jstor access! Yes I am a giant nerd who pines for academe leave me alone with my papers and books
This is my regular reminder to everyone that jstor is open to the general public now; a free account there will give you access to 100 papers a year.

Many people and institutions that fight back are winning.

This is a large part of the reason to scorn the people and institutions that have caved. When this is over their lives should be made miserable. More, I mean.
Kimmel won. Winning matters, wins are how we’re going to prevent this autocratic slide.

This is an A+ Frankenstein joke and I really love it.

10/10, no notes.
Disney and corporations like it have been ruining America long before Kimmel ever got booted. They should suffer along with the rest of us.
DISNEY: "OK, we are putting Jimmy Kimmel back on the air. You can resubscribe now."

ME: "I unsubscribed because you immorally bowed to fascism. I'm not going to resubscribe because you immorally bowed to finances."

To be clear: this entire “we’ve got to run more pro-lifers” insanity is because literally a week ago polling showed that Democrats would prefer politicians like AOC and Mamdani over Jefferies and Schumer by, let me emphasize this, a 20 point fucking margin.

Poll: Capitalism is out … and socialism is in

This article really hits home: in my youth, Chicago was such a great city for a curious and budding cinephile. It wasn’t just the Siskel Center or the Music Box Theatre or Facets — it was a strong critical community that could help guide one’s viewing choices. It’s heartbreaking to see that go.
The Last Film Critic: Chicago and the Slow Death of the Professional Movie Review
50 years after Roger Ebert was the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize, Chicago is emblematic of the stark decline in film criticism.

I am begging everyone. Take 15 minutes a day to support all the journalists, authors, bookstores, libraries (by reading, sharing, donating, etc) who provide publications that are not afraid to criticize this adm*nistration.

Stay informed and educate your peers.
Don’t let this make you quieter.

Get louder.
I will die if it actually makes it in the game 😂
Really need The Witcher 4 to have a Gwent joke along these lines.

"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis

Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.

We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.
This is the perfect framing, I think. Unifying, mobilizing, and laser focused on the true source of our problems.
James Talarico: “The only minority destroying America is the billionaires. We are focused on the wrong 1%. It’s the billionaires and their puppet politicians. The biggest divide in our politics is not left vs. right, it’s top vs. bottom.”
