A key reason why I (usually) align with the new liberal/neoliberal wing is that it presents a fundamentally positive-sum view of the world where even difficult issues are ultimately solvable with patience, pragmatism, and good policy

This is, I think, simultaneously both optimistic *and true*

"Do not stupidly and callously overreach when you are given power and opportunity" is a lesson that I think might actually be unlearnable
i don't think anybody is prepared for the tantrums that are going to be thrown after the right blew through their entire cultural pendulum swing in one year

If Dems are smart they will pull on the Lutnick thread.
Massie on Howard Lutnick: "He should just resign. Three people in Great Britain resigned for less than what we've seen Howard Lutnick lie about. He clearly went to the island, if we believe what's in these files. He was in business with Jeffrey Epstein."

For a lot of folks, it’s not that protesting is something revolutionary and dangerous that requires intense secrecy, it’s that they practice intense secrecy to convince themselves that protesting is something revolutionary and dangerous
I do always find it hilarious all these op sec guys talking about covering up, when you have all these moms out there putting themselves at risk out in the open.

I do wonder at what point the administration starts getting the moniker "embattled" regularly applied to it
NYT gets around to reporting what has been on the front pages of papers around the world for the last week, but still is nowhere to be seen in major US broadcasts: Howard Lutnick, Trump's billionaire commerce secretary, interacted with Jeffrey Epstein regularly over at least 13 yrs while they lived

Crank convergence is such a waste of the infinite potential of the human spirit; Naomi Wolf shouldn't be running third-tier Stop the Steal derivatives, she should be chronicling how the Catholic Church suppressed the memory of the Primordial Feminine Goddess and trying to translate Linear A.
Bill Ackman's fund, Pershing Square, manages 18 billion dollars for wealthy clients, billions of it for the Harvard Endowment

Anyways here he is uncritically eating up conspiracy slop from Naomi Wolf about stolen NYC elections

Judging by this site's reaction, worried we're setting ourselves up for incredibly overhyped expectations and backfiring overreach on top of that

Still, a good result, hope we can keep up the overperformances and make the right choices in some vital primaries
If there's ever been a time to NOT be incrementalist, this is it. The most political capital you're gonna have is right now. And we got Gestapo death squads in MSP and TB spreading through concentration camps in Texas. If you can't find a win there, get out of politics. The Epstein Class, baby

I have sort of vaguely reactionary cultural preferences in that I don’t really care for the more twee kind of tumblr-inflected turn that a lot of sci-fi/fantasy lit has taken of late, but this is entirely the market rationally responding to who buys books. Dudes need to be more literate.

Correct, but it goes back to the Snowden Defection. Far too many liberals in good standing treated it like an accountability mechanism.
Is anybody ever gonna take a step back and realize the "Russia Russia Russia" people — derided as lunatic wine moms — were actually underplaying the foreign influence stuff, and the loud people who kept insisting it was all fake are now saying Jeffrey Epstein was kind of a cool guy?

I’m really proud of you guys. You ALMOST had to admit that maybe some liberals were on your side, that we’re willing to stick up for our neighbors and our principles, but you’ve successfully created a permission structure to hate us exactly as much as you did before. Well done!
Can't believe most of bsky was treating this guy like a modern John Brown as recently as last month. This dweeb would lose his MIND if he saw what Indigenous people in Brazil do with blockades.

Good time to mention he remains rather high on my personal '28 list
Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate.

I think it's more likely she takes the (all but guaranteed) Senate seat and shoots for 32 or 36

(And personally, I don't think she's likely to win in 28, at least not currently)
my 2028 primary take here is that if AOC makes a serious run it's hers to lose because I think she will be able to most credibly channel the rage of the primary voters
You know a politician is thinking about running for president when they start making moves on foreign policy: AOC will be headed to the Munich Security Conference and will speak in Berlin with a member of Germany's Social Democratic Party.

She ran a great campaign given the circumstances and turned what looked set to be a catastrophic loss into a relatively mild one

That said, I don't think she should run again (let alone "deserves" to) and don't think that circumstances absolve us of reforming the party image to better win elections
Ill be honest, I dont really have it in me to hate Kamala Harris. Lady got stuck in an impossible situation, tried, failed, wasnt even really her fault, I just can't bring myself to be mad at her about it. Too much else going on to be worth it.

I was saying this the other day: being a prog opposed to Talarico is crazy! He's a quite progressive guy who is able to win more conservative voters! I - a mealymouthed centrist moderate - think he has a shot and support him! Just take the W!
this really captures the perversity of the Crockett campaign

-Talarico is not particularly moderate
-the zero-to-100 application of racial and gender politics to buttress a dubious claim
-accidentally sneaking in the message that Talarico is more electable to your attack

The great dividing line between Mamdani and the great mass of online leftists continues to be that he is actually smart and they are not
I think Zohran understands, unlike a lot of his very online supporters, that actually running a functional NYC administration is going to be a lot more effective victory for "the Left" than anything else he can do, and that doing that is in no way, shape, or form something you can take for granted.
it is, to me, insane that people mad at Zohran for endorsing Hochul without explicit promises in her *primary* are also just pretending that other *primaries* aren't happening and he's stuck with this state leg. No, he's not! this is to help ensure Hochul doesn't block anything
