If hospital doctors had not sent Adriana Smith home the day before her death - if, hypothetically, they told her that she or her nine week old fetus required an organ transplant in order to survive - those same doctors could not have legally compelled one from the body of a corpse without consent.

What they are doing is essentially uncontrolled and unprincipled human experimentation. While the brain dead are not regarded as "human subjects" by our current ethical framework, this is still a violation of the Belmont framework (Respect for persons, Beneficence and Justice) and here is why:
