SO much of the cultural and artistic nostalgia that society chases was just art made when people got paid to do it. Lavish movie posters made by human artists, video games made by people without sixteen different investment companies breathing down their neck, movies made by studios taking a chance.

Sleep is a biological necessity, and sleep deprivation has real physical, psychological, and social consequences that need to be taken seriously. The way our society treats it as slothful to sleep according to natural rhythms (including midday naps and variant chronotypes like night owls) is evil.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I know it's everyone's gut reaction to say the No King's protests are libbed up and performative but I'm seeing way more "fuck billionaires" and "capitalism only benefits the few" or "fascism is the final stage" posters than last time.

Seems like a lot of people are waking up

I think Dracula could defeat Frankenstein but I don’t think Count Chocula could defeat Frankenberry and that speaks to the richness of the characters

Please remember that many disabled people won’t be at the No Kings rallies tomorrow.

A lot of the planned events are not accessible and/or disabled people are not safe or well enough to attend.

Anything you can do to increase accessibility and inclusion will help the resistance!

I have plenty of issues with the text-based stuff but I think it does have some actual use cases

AI video generation is pretty much entirely a net negative, this is barely scraping the tip of the iceberg in terms of the damage this shit will do
For @spitfirenews.com, I found that increasingly realistic AI-generated videos are being deployed to harass, smear, and create endless offensive content of influencers, whose likenesses are already readily available online. It’s happening to private figures, too.

AI-generated influencer scandals are here
Now anyone can play with the hyperrealistic likenesses of public figures.

earlier today someone showed me a picture of their baby and said "that's not even AI that's just what she looks like" and I am still thinking about the implications of that statement

Remote work was a game changer for people with disabilities.

It’s a life saving accommodation that can allow people to remain in the workforce who otherwise wouldn’t be able to.

Discontinuing it is another example of just how ableist our culture is.
This is deeply, deeply fucked up on SO MANY levels I don’t even know where to begin.
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

THREAD. When my parents' cat Bridget went missing, my dad, to try to ease his worry, painted her on a variety of historical adventures. These soon multiplied. Significantly.

After much nagging, he has had some postcards printed of this brilliant series:

DECONSTRUCTING COMICS: This week, a look at the strange history of "Robotech"! Robotech was a combination of three different anime -- why?? And why, after all these years, doesn't the #Robotech story doesn't really progress? I'm joined by Erik Amaya from Comicon.com! deconstructingcomics.com?p=8904

Most of rural Alaska is Alaska Native. Bonus donating to support Alaska Native people on Indigenous Peoples Day.
Western Alaska was hit hard by the recent storms. Houses floated away in Kipnuk, houses flipped over, people lost everything from the flooding that came with the storms. Please donate if you can. This group has a long history of supporting AK communities.

Robocop is a movie about a guy who gets killed on the job and they still made him go back to work

in a related story: I urge everyone to watch Xabungle
The last thing I heard is that they both hinted they'd be open to returning to a (the?) reboot, but I'd imagine that would be nothing more than a cameo role.
